Matthias Zeller

Matthias Zeller, born in Plauen in the Vogtland Musikwinkel ("music corner"), studied piano, violin and composition at the University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig. Courses in organ, percussion and improvisation complemented his education. The spectrum of his musical activities is broad and comprises working with ensembles in fields from jazz to new music, theatre, drama, film music and commissioned compositional works. He was finalist in the Improvisationswettbewerb Weimar (an improvisation competition) and the competition “Jazz and Churchorgan” (Hanover). Before joining the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, he was much sought after as a teacher by institutions such as the University Greifswald and the University for Music and Theatre in Leipzig. He is also active in collaborations with musicians such as Wolfram Dix, Michael Metzler, David Timm and ensembles, e. g., “Amarcord”. Some examples of theatres and performance venues he has worked together with are the “Gewandhaus Leipzig”, the “Neue Theatre Halle”, the Film University Potsdam-Babelsberg and the film theatre “Babylon” in Berlin.
His CDs are published under the name “Raumklang”.
