Statement from Prof. Jason Beechey

Now in my 18th year at Palucca it truly has become my artistic home. Having the chance to establish a new profile and build a new team and dynamic for dance in Dresden. I hope this has brought as much inspiration to all involved, as it has to me. To have so many individuals give so generously, of their time, dedication and energy. Building Palucca into a hub of creativity and exploring our passion for dance together. To have seen over the years, so many incredible individuals decide to come to Palucca and build, create and explore dance together, it is more than I could have ever hoped for.

Back in 2004, when the city of Dresden declared the intentions to ¡°build Dresden into the dance capitol of Germany¡±, this was an incredibly visionary statement. Rare to find a city that is so invested in dance. Hellerau was being renovated and they convinced William Forsythe to create a new Company. Thus, Hellerau was reborn along with the Forsythe Company. Nominating Aaron Watkin to the position of Artistic Director at the Semperoper Ballet, was key to set a whole new dynamic into action for the Semperoper. Finally, when I was handed the keys to the brand-new Campus of Palucca in 2006, it was a dream come true. To lead a Dance Education Institute and we set out together to build, collaborate and create a true ¡°full circle¡± vision for dance for Dresden.

I have now been offered, an incredible second such opportunity. The chance to be a part of building a whole new dynamic for dance in Zurich. My role, as Head of Dance, will be to build a Dance Department for the Zurich University of the Arts, starting on August 1st 2024. With an established Dance Academy Zurich, BA Contemporary Dance, MA Dance and Cathy Marston has just assumed the direction of the Zurich Ballet. My newly created role is to build the Dance Department into a new combined structure and connect the dots with all the other dance institutions and individuals in Zurich and Switzerland. This reminds me very much of Dresden in 2004 and is a chance I never thought I would experience a second time.

I also never thought I would leave Palucca. I am at home and very much a part of the Palucca family. I will remain a part of the Palucca family and very much look forward to celebrating the 100 Year Jubilee in 2025 and will do all possible over the coming 10 months to find the best successor to ensure the University moves forward in the best possible hands. There is an empowered and solid team with and established network and profile. The Team is incredible. People full of knowledge and ideas and there is a hugely talented student population, for whom I am incredibly curious to see and experience their next steps as dancers, teachers and choreographers.

I hope you can understand my excitement and decision, to hopefully pioneer with the Team in Zurich a whole new chapter for dance and to share in this with the global dance Community, most notably with Palucca.

Building together to ensure the dance world can be the most exciting place to be a part of. Celebrating together the joy of dance and all the emotions, ideas that we can experience together through Dance. A true tight-knit, global community, ensuring that generations to come will have safe places to explore their own passions for dance in the most inclusive, inspiring and caring of places and manner.

Presse Release

Prof. Jason Beechey, Rector of Germany¡¯s only independent university of dance, will change to the Zurich University of the Arts in summer 2024. As of 1 August 2024, he will assume the newly created position of ¡°Head Dance¡± at the university in Zurich.

Dresden, 25th October 2023. A native Canadian, Jason Beechey has been Rector of the internationally renowned Palucca University of Dance Dresden since 2006. The University will celebrate its centenary in 2025. Beechey is a professional dance teacher with 30 years of teaching experience. His vision of a progressive and future-oriented dance education has characterized the Palucca University of Dance Dresden over a period of almost two decades. With a focus on each individual and the idea of breaking through the traditional barriers that have existed between classical ballet, modern/contemporary dance and improvisation, Beechey developed a common and comprehensive approach to dance. This has led to, among others, a complete revision of the curriculum and a new orientation of the study programmes as well as the establishment of a permanent Health Team at the University. Furthermore, Beechey established a world-wide network for dance with renowned partner institutions. He has initiated numerous international exchange programmes as well as the Apprentice Programme with the Semperoper Ballett and other theatres throughout Germany.

The Zurich University of the Arts, with roughly 2000 students, is one of the largest art universities in Europe. The institution is currently the only establishment for professional training in classical ballet and modern/contemporary dance in Switzerland. As of next year and continuing to the end of 2026, the Department of Dance will undergo a restructuring. Jason Beechey will take on this task as ¡°Head of Dance¡± seeing in it a new challenge: ¡°For me, this is an extremely inspiring and exciting opportunity to create a completely new era of dance both at Zurich University of the Arts and in Switzerland¡± says Prof. Beechey.

How does one actually become a dancer? How does the admissions process work at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden? And how long does it take to become a professional dancer?

All of these questions and more will be answered on 4th November 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. when Germany¡¯s only independent university for dance and its integrated secondary school open their doors and dance studios to interested visitors.

During the public training sessions in classical dance, contemporary dance and improvisation, you can look over our students' shoulders and get an insight into their lessons. Inform youself about our study programs "Bachelor Dance", "Master Dance Teacher" and "Master Choreography" and get all answers directly from our professors. In addition, a wide range of activities for children and young people between the ages of 4 and 15 years are offered, inviting them to dance themselves and try things out.

During tours of the university campus, visitors can expect not only exclusive insights into the dance studios and classrooms, but also into the costume department, the audio visual studio, the physiotherapy and the boarding school.

The campus tours will be held at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. In addition, a sign language interpreter will be present and accompany the German tour at 11:00 a.m.

In addition, personal chats with the students, the programme leaders and the artistic staff will give very individual insights into everyday life at Palucca University of Dance Dresden. Information events on the admissions process, the courses on offer, accommodation in the boarding school, as well as secondary school and dance training round off the Open Door Day programme. For your physical well-being we will provide coffee and cake.

BA Dance Graduating Class 2023: 100% Employment Rate

Dresden, 26th May 2023. The Palucca University of Dresden is pleased to announce that all of this year¡¯s graduates of the BA Dance Programme have received a job offer and will shortly start their careers as professional dancers.

?We are proud of and congratulate our 2023 BA Dance graduating class, who will complete their studies with 100% employment.  Testimony to their dedication, talent and unique voices, they are set to start their careers in Companies in Dresden, Saarbr¨¹cken, Aix-en-Provence, Schwerin, Z¨¹rich and the Kibbutz Ga¡¯aton in Israel. Join us on the 9th & 10th of June in our Gr¨¹ner Saal to celebrate these creative young artists in an evening of their own works.¡±, so Prof. Jason Beechey (Rektor der Palucca ÈÕ²©ÌåÓý f¨¹r Tanz Dresden)

We send our warmest regards to all of you and hope that all of our students had a good start to the 2023 summer semester. For almost three years now, our Crisis Management Team has been busy with various tasks. Set up to deal with the Pandemic, the responsibilities then grew to assisting with the integration of Ukrainian refugees and to the energy saving scheme, which is currently in place. As of February, the Pandemic has officially been declared over! At this time, we would like to extend a sincere thank you, to Herr Schotte and Herr H?hnel who worked tirelessly alongside Frau Dr. Schl¨¹ter and myself to do all possible to ensure the health and safety of all during these challenging times. We now have, as you can read below, Frau Noack in our Team to assist with the continued support for our Ukrainian students and we continue to do our best to save energy as well. This means, we can now shift the focus of our Newsletter away from the Pandemic and back to all the exciting activities and events that are taking place!¡° Prof. Beechey, Rector

Spring is slowly approaching and a lot has happened at the University in the last few months:

Changes in the Palucca team

On 1st March 2023, Timothy Couchman ¨C since 2016 professor of classical dance at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden¨C took over the position of vice-rector for artistic affairs from Prof. Anke Glasow, who had held the position at the University for over 17 years. During her time as vice-rector for artistic affairs, Prof. Glasow was also responsible for the management of the Palucca Tanz Studio, which takes place annually in the University¡¯s auditorium Gr¨¹ner Saal and which has now been placed in the hands of Rita Aozane Bilibio, professor for contemporary dance at the Palucca University. However, Prof. Glasow will remain loyal to the University, but her focus will shift to research in the field of dance.

At the end of December 2022, we also welcomed Ms. Anne Noack to the University's international office. As a trained translator for the Russian language and a studied Slavicist (Russian) and historian, her main responsibility is to take care of the needs of our Ukrainian students.In February 2023 we also welcomed Ms. Sophie Sch?fer as a new teacher at our dormitory while we said goodbye to both the boarding school teacher Ms. Annie R?ppel and our janitor caretaker Mr. Wiegand. We wish both of them all the best for the future.

New timetabling and room planning software

The new timetabling and room planning software ASIMUT will soon be launched at the University to enable students and teachers to plan and present their lessons and rehearsals more effectively. For the students, this means that the previously tedious search for their own courses/lessons is no longer necessary. ASIMUT makes it possible to clearly display your own timetable via smartphone, tablet or PC. Furthermore, the software enables the students to book rooms themselves, which enables us in turn to use the rooms and studios optimally and offer many opportunities for training for final theses, auditions, etc.

Support Network of Dormitory & Residence Life / Pastoral Care launched

In March, the dormitory network "Support Network of Dormitory & Residence Life / Pastoral Care" was launched between the boarding schools of nine leading international ballet schools, including the Palucca University of Dance Dresden. The network aims to ensure that life in the institutions is rich, visionary for our young dancers and that they are supported through regular exchange and learning from each other to discover and fulfil their potential in a healthy way.

Events in the summer semester 2023

Our activities are gradually picking up speed again and we look forward to a well-filled calendar of events this spring and summer:

As part of the Dresden School Concerts, the event ¡°Wie wird man T?nzerIn?¡± (¡°How to become a dancer?¡±) will take place in the Gr¨¹ner Saal on 28th March and the ¡°Stunde des Tanzes¡± (¡°Hour of Dance¡±) on 30th March. Dresden schoolchildren get a glimpse behind our scenes and our students show works and choreographies from the current repertoire. In addition, excerpts from dance productions of the current semester work can be seen.

At this year's Easter workshop on 6th April, our students will have the opportunity to present their own contributions (choreographies, films, ...) to the internal University audience and win prizes, while on 29th April, the Palucca University will be a guest at the Leipzig Opera for the first time with a full-length programme with students from the Young Talents classes and the BA Dance Programme.

From 30th April to 6th May, dancers and artistic directors from ballet training institutions from all over the world will come together again this year at the Assembl¨¦e Internationale (AI) in Toronto, including the Palucca University of Dance Dresden with BA dance students Zoe Monohan, Catherine Rinehart Beer, Lucas Van Rensburg, and Korbinian Friedl (see picture). A unique and dynamic global event, AI, founded by Canada's National Ballet School in 2009, empowers emerging artists to develop as leaders.

On 4th and 5th May, the presentation of our Artistic Master Class student Chiara de'Nobili with BAT 2 students will take place in the laboratory theatre of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, and on 6th May, students of our Young Talents class 3 will show excerpts from the choreography "Icari" by Brian Scalini (graduate MA Choreography 2022) as part of the 8th BalletBenefizGala at the Chemnitz Opera House.

Then the hot phase begins for the BA Dance theses, which this year's graduates will present to the public on 9th and 10th June in the Gr¨¹ner Saal of the University.

We finish our academic year with our annual Palucca Soir¨¦e. This year, however, the Soir¨¦e will not "only" be performed in the Semperoper Dresden on 6th July but also ¨C for the first time ¨C in the Gr¨¹ner Saal of the University on 22nd, 24th and 29th June. We then send our students their well-deserved summer holidays on 10th July, which, for some of our students, they will start with an eventful dance week on Hiddensee (9th to 14th July). The dance week on Sylt takes place from 16th to 22nd July.

Tickets for all performances in the Green Hall (apart from ¡°Stunde des Tanzes¡± and ¡°Wie wird man T?nzerIn?¡±) are available in advance from the Konzertkasse Dresden ticket office, tickets for the Soir¨¦e in the Semperoper exclusively from the Semperoper and for all other guest performances and external performances via the advance ticket sales offices of our respective event partners.

Dear All,

Hello and we hope this finds you all well and settled into the new Academic Year and your fall activities. Great to have all back and see the University in full swing ¨C including the PUCK classes in the evenings, our first guest teachers and visiting groups as well.

A highlight already in this first week was the chance for an exclusive screening of the just released ¡°Dancing Pina¡± featuring the Semperoper Ballet and we can highly recommend this as a great documentary film to see and have an inside view into how the legacy of Pina Bausch is evolving and being kept alive.  

Congratulations also to our MA Choreography student Y. Gui for her MA presentation this past weekend in the Octagon of the HfBK Dresden.

Thank you all for your on-going cooperation and in the event of any symptoms of what could be COVID, to stay off-campus and keep us informed. Let¡¯s hope the rules stay this way and we can realize all our planned activities. The first Parents Day, is just around the corner and our Open Door Day is not far away either on 8^th October.  We look forward to welcoming many of you and are seeing for parents who can¡¯t be on-campus in person, that a password protected online DFN Conf viewing of the dance classes, could be facilitated as well.

Now ¨C save, save, save!  With the energy crisis we need to do all possible to save electricity and gas.  Our new building is very energy efficient however our older building and the two villas are less so. Hopefully by being as energy efficient as possible, we can ensure that we are doing our best in these times. Yes, we are high up on the priority list to ensure our activities may continue with the necessary levels of energy (hot water, lighting and heating) and we are seeing all measures to be as efficient as possible as well. For example, switching to LED lights, timers on the lights, reduced heating in the hallways, etc.  We need to ask all here, please to take short showers, ensure the lights are off when you leave the studios and rooms and to really be sure we are doing the most, to help out.

According to the statutory provisions, we now have to comply with the following room temperatures (in degree Celsius):

• classrooms Secondary School: 20¡ãC
• offices, libraires etc.: 19¡ãC
• sanitary facilities, dressing rooms, cafeteria: 21¡ãC
• bathrooms, showers, rooms dormitories/boarding schools:  24 ¡ãC
• dance studios: 22¡ãC
• hallways, corridors, staircases will not be heated

As our activities increase, we are happy to welcome back the Evening classes after our Fall break and a whole new series of further educational Workshops for Dance Teachers will shortly begin in cooperation with ta.med e.V. (Dance Medicine).

The Nutcracker casting will be announced this coming Friday, 23^rd September and we are delighted that all students from O1 ¨C N3 will have a chance to participate. With two casts and 14 performances there will be many chances to see all perform and to allow for a great artistic development of all. The reserved blocks of tickets for the Parents/Guardians has been made and the information with the casting will be shortly sent to all.

Welcome to the new Academic Year 2022/23!

Dear All,

Hello and we hope this finds you all well, healthy, rested and full of new inspiration following the summer!

It was great to welcome all for the first time for 3 years, in our ¡°Gr¨¹ner Saal¡±.  You could feel the excitement as we welcomed 52 new students, 1 new staff member and shared in both the film from Hiddensee as well as talking about all the projects planned for the coming year.  It was also a chance to celebrate several jubilees for long time staff and also to celebrate one MA and one Artistic Master Class student who completed their degrees over the summer.  Much to celebrate and be thankful for.

The past year was very full and it was wonderful to have seen our students on both the Summer Stage and to return to the Semperoper also for the first time since 2019.  We welcomed 10 Ukrainian Refugees into our activities and it was great to see how they have integrated, adapted and were also a part of all of our activities.  Many thanks to all who donated to assist with their situation.  One has returned to the Ukraine for family reasons and we are very happy that the 9 others continue with us.

Luckily at the moment, there are no Covid restrictions and we just ask all to be as prudent as possible and with any possible symptom, to please stay off-campus.  This is our best way to avoid any spread of Covid and we thank you all in advance for your cooperation here.

Thank you to all for your support and cooperation during the past year and let¡¯s all hope that the 2022/2023 academic year will offer us a more stable situation and the many projects that are planned will be able to take place. 

We look forward to welcoming many of you to our Open Door Day on Saturday, 8^th October also, a first chance to have a ¡°peek behind the scenes¡± since 2019, and then the performances begin with Palucca Tanz Studio and The Nutcracker and carry right on through the year.

Hello and we hope this finds you all well and enjoying the "alucca Summer Stage"! It has been wonderful to see the performances of ¡°Boiling Point", "Monsieur Petipa", "A Shared Vision", PUCK Children¡¯s Classes, and the excitement builds with our upcoming ¡°Young Talent Dresden" and "Saxony dances¡± this weekend, and then finally on to our Soir¨¦e Programme on the summer stage and in the Semperoper Dresden.

In Saxony, the number of new Covid cases is rising now at an alarming rate. We have also had several cases this week here at the Palucca University. Especially with all of our activities planned, we must ask all to be extremely vigilant. Free tests are available at the reception for all staff and students, you can always wear your mask to protect yourself and others; and with any sign of what could be considered a Covid symptom, you must stay home and off-campus. Being on-campus with Covid symptoms could be putting others at risk. We really hope to be able to proceed with our planned activities.

Whenever possible, we ask to conduct meetings online or outside, and we strongly recommend avoiding unnecessary close contact and large groups whenever possible. Yes, we are all free to do as we wish in our private time. However, please really consider the currently alarmingly fast-rising number of Covid cases and make sure you are doing your best to ensure the health and safety of yourself and others, which in turn, protects our planned activities also.

With the most recent cases, it has been great to see how responsibly and quickly everyone reacted. Our Crisis Management Team was informed immediately, the persons concerned stayed home and we could act as best as possible as a team for the interests of the health and safety of all.

Hello! We hope that this finds you all well and enjoying that spring has now well and truly arrived here in Dresden. This newsletter is a more hybrid form, as the focus of our Crisis Management Team shifts from Corona to assisting the refugees. And now, as we return to a more ¡°normal¡± situation, a return to a ¡°normal¡± newsletter from our Press Department is in preparation focusing on all the upcoming events and activities! Two weeks ago, all Corona restrictions on campus have been lifted, except for our administrative staff, which will most likely be lifted after 25th May. We will keep all posted but this is very much expected to be the case. As always, with any sign of any symptom that could be Covid, please stay off-campus until you feel better to avoid spreading the infection or of posing risk to others.

A heartfelt thank you to all for your donations for our Emergency Relief Fund for our Ukrainian Refugees. Over 1500€ have been raised and we are able to finance language classes to assist with their integration and help them to adapt to life here in Germany. Also a huge thank you to all staff and students for assisting and being so warm and welcoming. Great to see them making new friends, discovering new styles of dance and of being able to open our doors to include them in the creative processes underway for our upcoming performances.

As our activities are returning to a more stable and active rhythm, all our exams are in full swing, our auditions for the coming year are almost complete and a whole series of performances is about to begin! Tickets for our Soir¨¦e in the Semperoper on 14th July are already on sale (Calendar / Tickets ¨C Semperoper Dresden) and the full ticketing for the Summer Stage (BA Dance Works in our ¡°Gr¨¹ner Saal¡±, A Shared Vision x 2, Young Dresden Talents ¨C Dance, Song and Voice, Saxony in Dance, Palucca Soir¨¦e x 3) will go on sale on 1st June ¨C also through the online ticketing service of the Semperoper.

Sharing our Summer Stage this year with other art forms and other institutions, we are delighted to be welcoming back the Semperoper Ballet and also for the first time since 2007 dancers from the Juilliard School of New York! This is possible from an exceptional support from the Jody and John Arnhold | The Arnhold Foundation, and we are very much looking forward to a renewed exchange with the Juilliard School. Many other guests will be joining us and we look forward to sharing in such a celebration all together. The full calendar will be following shortly in our newsletter.

For the coming 2022/2023 Academic Year, all classes from O1¨CN3 will be involved in The Nutcracker. The Semperoper has blocked a contingent of 50 tickets for each performance in all price categories, so once our casting is done in September, all parents/guardians will be able to buy at least 2 tickets to see a performance where their family member is performing. We wanted to let you know this information before The Nutcracker tickets go on general sale on 18th May. For our 2023 Soir¨¦e on 6th July, the tickets will go on sale in January 2023, so there is no worry about missing the opportunity to purchase well in advance.

Hello and we hope this finds you all well and enjoying the Easter Holiday. It was great to see the ¡°Easter Workshop¡± live in the Gr¨¹ner Saal after two years and to celebrate together such talent and creativity. Thank you also for your donations for our Ukrainian refugees. Together, we have raised over 1000€ to date to offer assistance.

The Easter Holidays are also a busy time, with our MA Dance Teacher students on campus and many students from the O/N and BA Dance classes taking advantage of the ¡°Encounter¡± Workshop.

When we start back on Monday, 25th April, we are back to normal life, with no Corona restrictions on campus. The current regulations for the administrative staff remain unchanged, since the current ¡°Corona-Arbeitschutzverordnung¡± remains in force until 20th May 2022. Should there be any changes in the meantime, we will adapt our internal rules as necessary.

We still recommend to wear masks indoors whenever distance cannot be kept and we ask you to go on following the general hygiene rules. Tests are still available if a student or staff member wishes to do a quick test. However, the most important aspect in this new phase is to please stay off campus with any sign of a symptom of what could be Covid. This is our most effective defense against the spread of the virus and we ask for your continued vigilance and cooperation here, especially with the relaxed rules and greater contact between persons in this new phase.

In the event of a positive case, the rules remain unchanged, with a mandatory 10-day quarantine. If symptom-free for at least 48 hours, the person can do a rapid antigen test at a test center on day 7, and if negative, the quarantine ends. As always, please inform our Crisis Management Team in the event of such a case.

The PUCK Children¡¯s Dance Classes have already resumed on campus, the evening classes will start back on 25th April and 2nd May, external visitors will be allowed in the cafeteria.

Plans are developing well and in the coming months will see many MA works, in both the MA Choreography and MA Dance Teacher Programme, as well as the BA Dance works and performances in Bad Elster, on our "Palucca Sommerb¨¹hne" and, finally, a return to the stage of the Semperoper in July!

As much as we are excited and inspired by all of the planned activities and of having a more relaxed situation in terms of the pandemic, we ask all to please renain extremely vigilant to ensure all remain healthy and we can share in all of these exciting events together.

Many thanks to all interested applicants for all of our programmes for the coming 2022/2023 academic year. 

At this time, our Application Portal is closed as the deadline for all programmes was 31st March 2022. We will now begin to evaluate all applications. For those who have applied, you will be hearing from us shortly.

With having also recently integrated 10 young Ukrainian dance students into our current year, we are at our capacity and are unable to accept any more students at this time, or to consider further applications for the coming academic year for our BA and MA Programmes. With over several hundred applications having arrived for the few places on offer, we really must respect the deadline and can¡¯t accept any further applications.

The next auditions, on the 17th of September are only for candidates for an immediate entry into Grade 5¨C10, provided we have any vacant places left in these classes at the time, and for the future O1 (Grade 5) for September 2023.

The application details for the September audition will be published shortly on our website.

Hello, and we hope you are all well, despite the waves of Covid and the flu going around. Thank you to all donors, staff and students for your welcoming assistance towards our 10 Ukrainian dance students and for all your help to integrate them. It was great to welcome the parents and guardians last Saturday to our Parent¡¯s Day for the O & N classes and to also have the chance to present our ¡°Stunde des Tanzes¡± Programme in the ¡°Gr¨¹ner Saal¡± to a very enthusiastic audience of school children.

Even with the number of new cases being high, there is a relaxation of many of the current rules as of Monday, 4th April 2022. With the changes, it is more important than ever that each person takes full responsibility for themselves. At any sign of a symptom, please stay off-campus, until it is clear if it is a case of Covid or not. The new strains are tending to only test positive later, after symptoms have appeared. It really is the symptoms that are now the most important means to detect a possible infection and slow the spread.

As of Monday, it is up to the decision of each individual to wear a mask on the campus or not. It is no longer obligatory. The twice-weekly testing for all non-vaccinated persons will remain in place until Friday, 15th April which marks the beginning of our Easter holidays. This now means we are also able to use our Cafeteria to full capacity and the Fitness Room can be used again too.

The current regulations for the administrative staff remain unchanged, since the current ¡°Corona-Arbeitschutzverordnung¡± remains in force until 20th May 2022. If there are any changes in the meantime, we will adapt our internal rules as necessary. The regulations for quarantine also remain unchanged. With this new situation, our Easter Workshop will also take place as planned on Thursday, 14th April from 11:00 ¨C 13:00 in the ¡°Gr¨¹ner Saal¡±, with a full-capacity internal audience! We hope many students will take this opportunity to show us their creativity and skills . The Friends of Palucca Association has generously agreed to sponsor the prize money as well.

To all students from O1 ¨C BA Dance 3 and Apprentices: Don¡¯t forget to sign up for the Encounter/Rencontre/Begegnung Workshop with our MA Dance Teacher students from 19th - 23rd April 2022. The registration deadline is 9th April 2022.

As much as these relaxations bring a welcome return to a more normal situation, we ask all to remain vigilant, as we have seen in other countries that have already taken such measures, an increase in the number of new cases has arisen following such relaxations. Once again, thank you all for your cooperation and understanding and let¡¯s hope this really is a big step towards a return to a more normal situation.

We hope on these first days of Spring that all are well and the new semester is off to a good start. We are very much looking forward to our first Parent¡¯s Day in presence (Saturday March 26th) for two years as well as our ¡°Stunde des Tanzes¡± performances as part of the Dresden School Concert series this week.

There are new Corona rules in place effective from today and the situation is now as follows:

• FFP2 / surgical masks need to be worn at all times in all campus buildings, except in ¡°class-separate¡± dance classes. Also, persons who are in an single-occupancy office spaces can work without their mask.
   
• Entry to the campus is strictly forbidden for anyone with any symptoms that could be Covid and we request everyone¡¯s utmost vigilance here. The currently dominant Omicron variant tends to only show up in testing after the symptoms have appeared, thus the increased attention to any symptoms.
   
• Testing will now be done twice a week. For students, either upon arrival in the Dormitory (Sunday or Monday) and for all others on Monday and Thursday morning in the first class. This twice-weekly testing, is now voluntary for all persons (students and staff) who have provided proof of recovery or whom are fully vaccinated with a booster. In the case of a positive quick test in a class, from the next day, daily testing of the class will be done for five days.
   
• The rules for Home Office remain unchanged at this time. All meetings should be done by telephone or video conference and only meetings that can¡¯t be done online, may be done in person. All work-related travel is still to be kept to a strict minimum.
   
• Only external guests with a work purpose are allowed on campus under 3G rules and only for the necessary work time.
   
• For our Parent¡¯s Day, both parents/guardians are allowed to attend, the 3G rules will apply with either providing proof of a full vaccination with booster, recovery or a quick test that is less than 24 hours old. All parents will be required to wear an FFP2/surgical mask at all times while on-campus.

We thank you in advance for your continued compliance with the rules. These will be in place until 2nd April.

Also at this time, in our efforts to assist people fleeing the Ukraine, we have been able to open our doors to welcome nine young dance students to continue their training with us. Further information on how you can make a donation to support the cause will follow shortly.

Dear All,

We are all very concerned about the situation in the Ukraine and wish to help the people fleeing. We have received many enquiries from young dance students fleeing the Ukraine and we have created an action plan in our Crisis Management Team to see how we can best help direct individuals.

All the requests to join Palucca University are being addressed on an individual basis, by our Rector, Oberschule Rector and the Student Affairs Office. These requests vary greatly with students aged 11¨C17, some are following academics online and all are coming from state recognized Professional Training Institutions with diverse profiles.

We are fully aware of the challenges of such an integration, both short and long term and also want to provide the necessary social and psychological support. For the integration into the dance classes, we know there is little contemporary dance and improvisation in the Ukraine. However, we are confident that we will be able to find creative solutions here to enable these young individuals to not only pursue their passion, but to discover a whole new world of dance techniques and teachers that make Palucca so unique.

Based on our capacities there is the possibility to integrate up to two students in each class from O1 ¨C N3, up to four guests in N4 and six in total in the BA Dance Programme. We will offer them the chance to join us for an 18-month period with the goal and hope this will lead to a complete integration and offer the perspective of a new future.

We will shortly have a coordinator to assist in all the aspects and there is an urgent need for volunteers, to help with the registration at the various offices in Dresden, medical visits, shopping, translation and dealing with the necessary paperwork. For the coordination of the donation of practical goods, such as dance clothing, school supplies and other necessities, we will proceed with this once the individuals are here and see what the exact needs are. Assistance and ideas from our Student Council, Parent¡¯s Committee and Friends Association are most welcome!

We are in the process of creating an account where financial donations can be sent and this information will be sent as soon as the account is open. We are working closely with the Studentenwerk Dresden and the City of Dresden to see about all the possible options for accommodation, support services and assistance with integration, as most of the applying students are traveling accompanied by a parent, guardian or with siblings.

This is a huge humanitarian aid undertaking and we hope that all members of the Palucca family feel as strongly as we do, about extending our support to these refugees in this time of crisis.

Hello and welcome to the summer semester 2022!

As happy as we are to see all back, we are all heavy-hearted with the situation in the Ukraine. Such a shocking and appalling action against humanity and basic human rights. All our thoughts for the Ukraine, their people, all who live there and also to the Russians who don¡¯t agree with this invasion as well.

The Winter Holidays were also a busy time on-campus. Following a great week for the MA DT students and the return after a long-awaited 3-year absence of GAGA for BAT3, it is great to welcome back this week all students from the O, N and BA classes. We have adapted our Hygiene Concept to the new rules and these will be in effect from Monday March 7th until March 20th . The basic changes are as follows:

? Campus remains under 3G rules. Masks are to be worn in all common areas.

? Testing will now be done twice a week on Monday and Thursday. Palucca Dormitory students upon their return, either Sunday night or Monday morning.

? When students are in their classrooms in the Secondary School, academics can be followed without masks.

? All dance classes can be done without masks for the students. Classes should continue to be taught separately. If it is unavoidable that there are students from more than one class in the studio (e.g., during rehearsals) then masks must be worn by all, except in the case of the guests N4 who will do a quick test on the day they participate with BAT1.

? For all projects involving more than one class, rehearsals are to be done with masks and on performance day, a test will be made and the performance can be done without masks.

? All persons in the dance studio are required a twice weekly test. All Administrative Staff are offered the chance to do 2 tests a week, however it is not compulsory. Persons who are not vaccinated or recovered must be tested or test themselves daily when entering the Campus (see 3-G-rule). The rules for home office remain unchanged.

? In the event of a suspected case, the entire class of students will begin daily testing as well as the teachers and musicians who were in the studios with the class.

? In the case of a confirmed case, the class and those teachers and musicians will do daily testing for 5 days.

? In the case of a Covid case in a family/household member, the Crisis Management Team must be informed and the decision of how to proceed will be decided on an individual basis. Please remember that persons have to be symptom-free when entering the Campus.

We hope this implementation of the current rules will ensure the greatest level of safety for all involved and we thank you in advance for your cooperation.

These rules remain in place until 20th March and we will keep you informed of the evolution of the situation.

We look forward to an inspiring summer semester and with many performances and activities planned we sincerely hope we will be able to realize all and welcome many more on-campus in the coming months to share in all the activities together.

unfortunately there are currently 4 cases of infection in class O2. We have therefore decided to suspend face-to-face classes for the entire O2 for the coming week (from Feburary 7th, 2022). Students of class O2 will only return to the university after the holidays.

The contact persons known to us have been informed, or the children are already in quarantine.

There will be online lessons from Feburary 7th, 2022 starting at 8 a.m. via DFN-Conf with the class teacher. You will receive further information on February 8th, I am available for urgent questions.

Hello, and we hope this finds you all well. We have received the latest rules, in effect as of 24 January 2022 for Saxony, and we have been able to see how we can adapt them and apply them for us. The conditions on campus remain as current and will stay this way until the Winter Holidays. We thank everyone for being so vigilant and also for always informing the Crisis Management Team directly in case of all matters concerning Corona.

The quarantine rules have changed.

In case you have a positive test result:

For all O1 ¨C N4 students, students in the BA, MA, Master Class and Apprentice Programmes and for all staff members, after a positive test, the normal full duration of the quarantine is 10 days. On the 7th day following the positive test result and provided they have had no symptoms for at least 48 hours, they are permitted to do a quick test in a certified testing center. If the result is negative, they can return to on-campus activities. This applies to all persons regardless of their vaccination status.

In case one of your fellow household member has a positive test result:

For fully vaccinated persons that are considered to be one ¡°household¡±, there is no longer an obligatory quarantine. If a fellow household member is in quarantine, the person ¨C provided that he or she has no symptoms ¨C is allowed to continue their on-campus activities with a daily self-test done on-campus under supervision and they must wear a medical or FFP2 mask at all times, keep their distance (especially in the cafeteria and changing rooms) and do self-monitoring for any signs of symptoms for 14 days.

The status of being ¡°fully vaccinated¡± is now determined by either having had:

- a booster vaccination or
- a vaccination plus recovery or
- the second vacation is more than 14 days and less than 90 days old or,
- in case of a recovered person, the positive PCR-Test is more than 28 days and less than 90 days old.

Unvaccinated persons living in the household with a positive person, must remain off-Campus under the same conditions as positively tested persons (see above). Please note that the rules for contact persons do only apply to persons without any symptoms. As soon as symptoms appear, the person must remain or immediately go into quarantine.

Dear All,

Happy Healthy New Year to all! We hope all have enjoyed the holiday season and that 2022 is off to a good start. For some students this was the first time to see their families after a long time, so we hope all have enjoyed the time together.

We started back on Monday and it was great to see all back. We also welcomed two new students from Australia as guests in the N4 class. The current hygiene rules from before Christmas remain in place for this week and next week, too. There is the addition of a test for all persons in the dance studios, including vaccinated or recovered persons. The self-testing will be done three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday before the first class of the day. If a person is in a studio for just one day or part of a week, a self-test must be done when entering the campus for the first time and then the on-going testing on the specific days must be followed. Moreover, following the Infektionsschutzgesetz (German Infection Protection Act), all staff members and students from the BA Dance (BAT) programme upwards who are not vaccinated or recovered have to do a self-test on a daily basis.

The mask rules remain unchanged and Palucca students and faculty can choose to wear either an FFP2 or a medical mask and all external guests must wear an FFP2 mask.

The quarantine rules, in the event of having either tested positive, living as one household or being a contact person, will be changing next week and as soon as we have the new rules, we will be informing all as quickly as possible. This is necessary in light of the fast-spreading Omicron variant.

As a new idea, for any student who is in quarantine, we have created an Online Training Team composed of Taisia Muratore, Young Mi Lee and Matthew Squire. In the event that students are in quarantine (because a fellow household member is positive, border closures, etc., but not having been positive tested themselves), a special individual online training programme will be created and lead through one-on-one sessions. This way, the Team can provide the best possible means for the individual to train and stay fit and based upon the space they find themselves in. We hope this will provide an even further enhanced level of support in such situations.

As always, anyone with any symptoms is not allowed on Campus and please directly inform the Crisis Management Team (krisenstab(at)palucca.eu) in all situations concerning Covid-19. We will continue to do our best to ensure all are as well informed as possible and to provide the safest possible environment for all persons on-campus.

With this Newsletter, we wish to combine our Corona Newsletter also with a more general newsletter too to provide all the information at once from both your Crisis Management Team and Rectorate.

Yes, the pandemic seems to be more present than ever, especially here in Saxony at the moment and an even greater vigilance is required. Thank you all for your continued support and cooperation here.

With so many complicated and ever-changing rules, we are doing our utmost to provide the safest environment for all Persons and here is how we will be proceeding for the coming weeks until our Christmas Holiday.

Current Hygiene Concept

General Rules

• 3G Rules on-Campus continue
• 2G only in groups that are proven to be fully vaccinated
• Home Office for all Administrative Staff unless absolutely necessary to be on-Campus
• Masks in all common areas and the current testing policy continues
• Strict separation of groups at all times
• Masks can only be removed in dance classes under supervision from the Teacher when distances are maintained

What to do when a quick-test is positive at home or when returning to the Dormitory:

• Email immediately the Crisis Management Team and go for a PCR Test, keep us informed of the results. Following a positive PCR Test, a person provided he or she is vaccinated or recovered and has no symptoms, can only be allowed back on Campus at the earliest with a new negative self-test done under supervision on the 7th day following the positive PCR Test.

What to do when a family member / household member is positive:

• For all non-resident students, faculty and staff, in the case when a family member is positive (child, spouse, parent¡­), we ask the person (Palucca student, staff or faculty) provided he or she is vaccinated or recovered and has no symptoms, to remain off-campus as a preventative measure for at least 4 days from the day of the positive PCR Test of their fellow household member. On the 5th day, with a negative quick-test done on-Campus under supervision, the person can be allowed back on-Campus.

What to do when a quick-test is positive on-Campus:

• The Parents/Guardians and Crisis Management Team are to be immediately informed.
• Non-resident students will need to leave the Campus, go for a PCR Test and self-isolate until the results are known and the proceed accordingly.
• Resident students will remain in an isolation room in the Dormitory and a PCR Test will be organized.

What happens when there is a positive PCR Test confirmed case in a class?

• The Crisis Management Team is now responsible to decide if the rest of the class will be able to continue their classes or if other students (close contacts) will also need to do a 5-day quarantine to prevent further spread. This goes for both vaccinated and unvaccinated persons. Daily testing can be implemented for the rest of the class and also the obligatory wearing of masks in dance as well. These measures are to avoid the whole class being sent into quarantine and us to really evaluate the timing and situation around each case and react as best as possible. This is now under the responsibility of our Crisis Management Team as the Saxonian Health Authorities are no longer able to follow all of the reported cases and make such decisions.

Obligatory Schooling:

• This has been suspended at the moment and Parents or Guardians wishing to keep their children/charges at home are allowed to do so. In this case, we have no obligation to offer the classes, both academic and dance online.

Nutcracker
Despite all theaters in Saxony being closed until January 9th 2022, we have not given up hope for Nutcracker! Working with the Semperoper we are seeing about the possibilities to re-schedule Nutcracker performances in late January and February 2022. Let¡¯s hope this will be possible.

Prix de Lausanne 2022
We are very proud that not only our BA Dance 1 Student Eiya Ishikawa has been selected to participate as a dancer, both our entries into the ¡°Young Creator Award¡± have been selected as Finalists! Ballet Unleashed
The first film created in our new ¡°Ballet Unleashed¡± Project, entitled ¡°Switchback¡± from Cathy Marston, has been selected for the ¡°Dance Camera West¡± Film Festival in Los Angeles, USA. This will take place from January 6th ¨C 15th ,2022 and we are delighted that the first creation in this new initiative will be presented for the first time in such a festival.

The current situation is Saxony has reached a new critical level and with immediate effect these are the new measures in place (i.a.in accordance with the new Corona Protection Emergency Ordinance for Saxony):

? All on-campus activities are to be reduced to the absolute minimum.
? Obligatory working from homw for all administrative staff. On-campus activities are only allowed if crucial for maintaining operation of the University.
? Palucca Tanz Studio performances on 26th & 27th November 2021 are cancelled.
? All rehearsals planned for this week for "Hansel & Gretel" and "The Nutcracker" are cancelled. All "Hansel & Gretel" and "The Nutcracker" performances at the Semperoper Dresden until and including 12th December 2021 are cancelled.
? The Gym and Quiet Room are no longer to be used.
? The existing hygiene concept remains unchanged, with a strict use of masks in all buildings, common areas, dressing rooms. As an exception in dance classes students can dance mask-free under the decision of the teacher when the "2G" rules apply to the specific group AND when sufficient distance is maintained.
? Without "2G" proof the following testing is mandatory:
? students of the secondary school: 3 times a week
? students and University staff: daily

Apart from that, everybody has got the option to do a daily test.

The ¡°obligatory school presence¡± for the secondary school has been suspended at this time, so any parents or legal guardians who wish to keep their child/charge at home, is allowed. Please inform us with the completed absence form.

Hello and we hope this finds you all well and everyone has enjoyed their Fall Break.

During the Break, it was also a very active time with a full on-Campus block of activities for our MAC, MADT, BA Dance 3 Students and Semperoper Apprentices. Great to welcome also guests from the Tanztheater Pina Bausch (Julie Stanzak and H¨¦l¨¦na Pikon), Margaret Tracey (Balanchine Workshop) and Tamas Moricz for Forsythe Improvisation alongside many of our permanent Faculty and Guests.
We are now back and in full swing with the preparations for our upcoming Palucca Tanz Studio (PTS), Hansel and Gretel and Nutcracker performances. With so many projects on the go, it is more important than ever to remain vigilant and responsible. The number of infections is rising every day, meanwhile we are witnessing the ¡°4th Corona wave¡±. In addition, the fall and winter months often bring colds and the flu.

Unfortunately, it is therefore still necessary that all measures/regulations as to infection control have to be consistently implemented and followed. To keep classes and rehearsals going and to successfully run our projects as planned it is upon every one of us to show the necessary responsibility and work for the common goal.

Pls. note and comply with the following:
Obligation to wear masks on Campus, in all buildings (exemptions: specific class/studio situations, residential areas Palucca Dormitory, single workplaces, Cafeteria)
Distances have to be observed wherever possible at all times.

Campus-access ¨C here the 3G rule continues to apply. Promoting additional self-tests is of great importance to us. In the meantime, findings have shown that increasingly also fully vaccinated and/or recovered persons may (not knowingly) transmit the virus. Therefore, we especially call also on fully vaccinated and/or recovered people/staff working in fields and areas with close and frequent contact at the university to do regular self-tests. Test kits are available at the reception.

Pls. pay attention at all times that you are free of any symptoms - only then access to the Campus will be granted. And one note regarding the Cafeteria: The situation is difficult as capacities are limited. We regret that meetings, extended stays/breaks etc. in the Cafeteria are not possible. Everyone has to wear a mask in the Cafeteria as well, only meals per se are the exception.

In order to further minimize the risks Campus-access for guests will be limited to the absolute necessary minimum: Access will only be granted for necessary business and maintaining operation of the university. A specific hygiene concept for the PTS performances will be in place.

A 2G hygiene concept for the use of both the Fitness Room and Quiet Room for all BA/MA students is now in place as well. An individual usage is permitted by a non-vaccinated/not fully vaccinated or recovered person. The use of both rooms is under strict compliance with the Hygiene Concept of our Health Team at all times. We hope this will be of benefit for all BA/MA students in the coming weeks.

Dear All,

we hope this finds you all well and settled in the new Semester. Great to see continued performances with the Installation of our MAC Students in the Hauptstrasse and ¡°Building Bridges¡± in honour of Henry Arnhold with the BA Dance III this past weekend. Rehearsals for our Palucca Tanz Studio, Nutcracker and Hansel and Gretel are underway and super to see so many activities taking place.

In the meantime, we have received the new Corona rules and have seen all we have to adapt and are allowed to do now on-Campus up to October 20, 2021.

For everybody accessing the Campus, the "3G rule" ("tested, vaccined or recovered") applies and wearing a mask is obligatory in all Campus buildings. Also, the twice weekly obligatory testing for all non-fully vaccinated / recovered people continues.

Masks are obligatory in all academic, theory and dance classes. However, the new rules allow us a more relaxed handling as to the obligation to wear masks and to keep distance: When every student in the class, namely the whole class, has got the status of fully vaccinated or recovered ¨C this applies solely to fixed classes/groups e.g., the BA Dance Programme, Master ("2G rule" - "vaccined or recovered"), there is no obligation to wear masks, contact is allowed between the students and the minimum distance doesn¡¯t need to be maintained, and further the full room/studio capacities are available. For dance classes and rehearsals, at times when more than one class is in the studio e.g. for a specific activity (for example some rehearsals for Nutcracker) or when one student of the class is neither fully vaccinated nor recovered, all people present in the studio must wear masks. As before, the respective teacher still has the right to allow the students to follow the class/ rehearsal partially without wearing their masks when the specific situation allows this and the conditions as explained in the Hygiene Concept are met (social distance/room capacity).

Please see attached listing of the due to the Corona pandemic limited studio/room capacities for information: The full studio /room capacities are available and apply for:
1. fixed classes/groups (e.g. BA Dance Programme, Master) when 2G Rule applies
2. the classes O1 to N4 (extra regulations for Secondary School/Oberschule)

Please be aware of the fact that wearing masks DOES NOT RESULT in an increase of the respective studio/room capacity.

In the Cafeteria, there are only two chairs per table now. Classes must stay separate and additional tables have been placed around the Campus. The Cafeteria is to be used as a priority for the students and only for persons who purchase their meal in the cafeteria. As there are moments with several classes having the same time, the seating is already at its capacity.

Despite the relaxing of regulations, we would like to call on you to follow all existing and clearly communicated guidelines and precautions in everyday life and to take on your responsibility for the common goal to keep the Corona virus from spreading as the pandemic is not over yet. Above all, this applies to make sure that there is no mixing of groups/classes. Please see the University¡¯s information on Rules of Conduct ¨C Protection and Safety Rules for further details.

These rules will remain in place until 20 October 2021. As of October 21, there will be a new Corona Protection Ordinance for Saxony. As always, we will keep you informed of any changes before then or how it will be following our Fall Break.

WORLD BALLET SCHOOL DAY CELEBRATES NEW GENERATION OF DANCE ARTISTS

Dresden, 17 September 2021 ¨C As one of seven educational institutions of the organising committee of The World Ballet School Day2021, the Palucca University of Dance Dresden is delighted to announce that the second annual World Ballet School Day (WBSD) will be streamed online at www.worldballetschoolday.com on Saturday, 13^th November throughout the day. Furthermore, Joshua Hunt, BA dance student at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, is a member of the student committee of the WBSD.

The WBSD connects the next generation of young professional dance artists with young people from around the world. Created by students for students, this event is a platform for young artists in training to share a message of solidarity through the language of dance and ballet.

Students from the seven schools of the organising committee will join together in discussion to provide insights into the world of professional ballet and dance training, introducing segments from each school featuring behind the scenes and performance footage, exploring the following themes:

1. Adaptability: This topic will share how the dance world must evolve to meet the societal conditions of today and showcases how students and their schools have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. Identity: Students will focus on how they see themselves on the stage and identify as artists discovering themselves, as well as showcasing the ideas around celebrating/embracing diversity.
3. Pathways: As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge how students will enter the profession, this topic will share and discuss a variety of ways dancers are becoming professionals. 

This year, the committee extends an invitation for ballet schools to participate in this second edition of WBSD by submitting a short video clip (no more than 20-30 seconds) of dance content that best represents their organisation and connects with the above themes. These submissions will be edited into a celebratory representation of our global dance community. Submissions can be made online at www.worldballetschoolday.com until 8^th October 2021.

Besides the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, the seven educational institutions in the WBSD 2021 organising committee include The Ailey School, Boston Ballet School, Canada¡¯s National Ballet School, English National Ballet School, New Zealand School of Dance and the Prix de Lausanne. The idea was originally conceived by Viviana Durante from the English National Ballet School.

Welcome to the Winter Semester 2021! We hope the summer has gone well for all and everyone is ready to start back refreshed, inspired, with new energy. We also extend also a very warm welcome to the many new people joining our Palucca Family at this time.

With a staggered start back, our MA Choreography Programme has already launched into the new semester with a sold-out performance event in the Bauhaus Museum in Dessau. Congratulations to all! What a great way to start our new semester.

Our MA Dance Teacher students are also, after a long pause, back on campus! Great to see everyone being busy in their classes and also leading and teaching our ¡°Welcome Back¡± week for many students from the O2 ¨C BA Dance 3 classes.

This Sunday, we will open our Dormitory and welcome our new O1 class. Then, progressively by Monday, 13th September, we will have all students back and be fully into our activities.

A full and exciting academic year lies before, with many projects and ideas and we hope the situation of the pandemic will allow us to proceed as planned.

The current and complete Hygiene Rules can be found here. Please read the complete rules that are in place and that you are fully aware of the current situation and we need to do.

For a short resume, we are following the "3G rules" and for the first two weeks: All persons entering the campus who are neither vaccinated or recovered will be required to do 3 self-tests per week, on Monday, Wednesday & Friday of both weeks. The current rules are in place until 22nd September, which is when we will review and adapt the rules as necessary.

Under the current rules, as we have small groups, large studios, classrooms and good ventilation, all teachers have the right to allow the students to dance and follow their academic classes without masks, as long as a distance can be kept. This is under the direct permission and supervision of the teachers. Masks must be worn in the hallways, dressing rooms and all other common areas. We really need to work all together to avoid any mixing of classes to ensure the health and safety and reduce any risks of a group quarantine.

For all BA Dance classes, pas de deux and partnering will begin the week commencing 13th September. As it is impossible to keep a distance of 1,5m between during these classes, the students will need to wear masks. All students who are not vaccinated or recovered are required to do a self-test on the day of the pas de deux and/or partnering class. These rules will remain in place as long as the incidence rate is below 35.

The Gym: Individual use is allowed and the key can be collected from the reception. The priority for using the Gym lies with with our Health Team, e.g., for rehabilitation, which is always done under the supervision of our Health Team.

The administration continues to work partially from home. The working time regulations of 5 July 2021 remain applicable until further notice.

Three positive COVID19 cases have occurred at the secondary school of the Palucca University of Dance. The cases were detected early and are limited to one class. This class is now in quarantine. However, this does not affect or restrict school, university, dormitory and event operations. We wish those affected a speedy recovery!

It is with great pleasure that we present the online dance film "SYMBIOSIS" by and with this year's graduates of the BA Dance at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden. The film (approx. 100 min) was produced on our ¡°Palucca Sommerb¨¹hne¡± and is available on our VideoCampus Sachsen-Kanal until 20th August 2021.

Congratulations to all on four beautiful sold-out Soir¨¦e performances on our Summer Stage! After such a challenging year it was such a pleasure to see 130 students reveling in the return to the stage and performing before a public after such a long time. Pure joy to witness and behold. Even the weather co-operated and all 8 performances over the past two months could take place and offer a true highlight to end the Academic Year with.

As we prepare to celebrate the achievements of our Graduating Classes, this year in the N4, BA Dance, MA Dance Teacher, Apprentice Programmes and Artistic Master Class, we wish to express a heartfelt thank you to everyone for your unending support, understanding and engagement during this past year. A true testament for everyone¡¯s belief and courage and team work.

Also, on Friday, 23rd July 2021 at 12 noon, the dance film ¡°Symbiosis¡± with the BA Dance Works (Thesis) of our Graduating BA Dance class will have its online premiere. This will be online, free-of charge, to view over the Summer for a four-week period and available to view under the following link: Symbiosis / Medien / VCS (sachsen.de). We are very much looking forward to discovering their works and hope you enjoy viewing them as well!

Next week, the team for this year¡¯s Sylt project (Hiddensee had to be cancelled because of the Pandemic), will be heading North for what we hope will be an inspiring week of classes and performances under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Jenny Coogan.

During the coming four weeks (26th July ¨C 20th August) with no on-campus activities, there will be no obligatory testing for any on-campus employees and voluntary self-tests are available, one per week. During this time, masks don¡¯t need to be worn either as long as the 1.5 m distance is maintained and rooms are ventilated regularly.

Employees who have been absent from the campus for five days or more (vacation, mobile work etc.) are obliged to present a test not older than 24 hrs or test themselves upon their return, if they are not fully vaccinated (+ 14 days) or recovered from COVID-19 (28 days ¨C 6 months after positive PCR-test).

The 2021/2022 Academic year will begin with the Apprentice Programme at the Semperoper on 25th August and the MA Dance Teacher on-campus phased as of 23rd August. We will be having a Crisis Management Team meeting in the week of 16th August to ensure we have adapted our Hygiene Concept to the conditions of the time and will inform all by our next newsletter then. For all students returning to campus, or entering Germany, please inform yourself of the exact entry conditions at the time and make sure to take all necessary precautions.

There will be a voluntary ¡°Welcome Back¡± Workshop for the coming O2 ¨C N4, BA Dance 2 & 3 students to starting on Monday, 30th August. Former N4 students who are continuing in BAT 1 can also take part. The ¡°Welcome Back¡± will start on Monday, 6th September for all ¡°new to Palucca students¡± of BA Dance 1 and then normal classes including dance classes start for O1 ¨C N4 on Monday, September 6th and for BAT 1, BAT 2 & BAT 3 on Monday, 13th September.

The Palucca Dormitory will open on Sunday, 5th September. If a student needs to quarantine, we are unable to open the Dormitory earlier than this, so please check the rules and your vaccination status and be in touch with the Dormitory to ensure all is well coordinated for your arrival. If a Quarantine needs to be done upon arrival, this can be arranged with our Dormitory, but starting only from Sunday, 5th September.

For the PUCK Children¡¯s Dance Classes and the Evening Classes for Adults, the decision can only be made in early September as to when the classes will be allowed to resume based upon the situation of the Pandemic. We thank you here for your understanding.

Finally ¨C we are in process of creating a hardcover 24-page photo book, documenting the entire Summer Stage. With photos of all classes, covering both the on-stage classes, performance and rehearsals of our Soir¨¦e, ¡°A Shared Vision¡± Gala and the Semperoper Ballet, we hope this will provide all of us and our families a great chance to experience once again all the excitement of the past two months and to share this with many Families and loved ones who were unable to travel to Dresden and share in this on-campus. Working with the photographer Ida Zenna, the book will be available in September for an online purchase and information will follow at the beginning of the new semester.

100% EMPLOYMENT GRADUATING CLASS BA DANCE

Dresden, 14 July 2021 - The Palucca University of Dance Dresden is pleased to announce that all of this year¡¯s graduates of its BA Dance Programme have received a job offer and will shortly start their careers as professional dancers.

The BA Dance graduates will go to the following companies: 2 x Ballett Chemnitz (Germany), 3 x Semperoper Ballett (Germany), 2 x Ballett Schwerin (Germany), 1 x Ballett Pforzheim (Germany), 1 x Ballet National de Marseille (France), 1 x Ballet Preljocaj Junior (Aix-en-Provence, France), 2 x Staatstheater Saarbr¨¹cken (Germany), 1 x Sorbisches National-Ensemble (Bautzen, Germany), 3 x Konzert Theater Bern (Switzerland), 1 x Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company (Frankfurt/Main, Germany).

Of the 17 BA Dance graduates this summer semester 2021, 11 are women and six are men.

¡°We are so proud of every individual of our BA Dance graduates that even in this pandemic time they have all found employment. It is a true testament to their hard work, courage and talent and we are so excited to follow them in their next steps in their artistic development as they begin their careers,¡± says Prof. Jason Beechey, Rector of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden.

Due to the pandemic, the bachelor theses of the BA Dance graduate class could not be performed in front of a live audience in June as usual this year. Instead, the BA Dance graduates produced an online dance film titled "SYMBIOSIS¡° on the ¡°Palucca Sommerb¨¹hne¡° comprising of their individual bachelor works. The film will premiere online on 23 July at 12 noon. It will then be available to view for four weeks on the University¡¯s VideoCampus Sachsen channel (until 20 August 2021).

We hope this finds you all well and healthy and it was great to see many of you at the inaugural performance of the Semperoper Ballet on our Sommerb¨¹hne over the past week. It has also been a great chance with the Lecture Demonstrations for our students to see the Semperoper Ballet up close and at work in both classes and rehearsals too.

With the implementation of the new Corona rules, the self-testing will be reduced to once a week and this will take place every Monday, or on the first day on Campus in the week. Testing will be done in the Palucca Dormitory when resident students return on Sunday if they have been away. As long as the incidence remains under 10 the wearing of a mask remains only in all common areas. In classrooms and studios, the decision to wear a mask or not is the responsibility of the teacher. This is the same as the current situation with distance being kept and no mixing of classes.

For the Administrative Staff, the obligation for mobile work is over and the new rules will follow this week which will take effect as of July 5th. Further details will follow this week directly to the Administrative Staff from our Chancellor.

For the Health Team, as long as the incidence remains under 10, preventative therapeutic handling is now permitted under the current hygiene rules. Please remember, by any signs of illness that could be a symptom of Corona, it is forbidden to enter the Campus, even if you are fully vaccinated.

For our upcoming four performances of our Soir¨¦e, the ticket sales have begun! On www.semperoper.de you can purchase tickets for the performances, which are on July 8th, 10th, 15th and 17th, all starting at 19:00. Don¡¯t wait long ¨C as the tickets are selling fast!

For the Graduation Ceremony on the Sommerb¨¹hne Friday,July 23rd, each Graduate from N4, BAT 3, MADT 3 and the Apprentice Programme can bring up to 4 family members or friends and they must be registered with their contact information and follow the same rules as the public for the performances. Entry will be through the Tiergartenstra?e 80 and no entry into the building is allowed. A proof of a full vaccination will be required or a quick test that is not more than 24 hours old. The email to register will follow shortly from the Class Leaders for all graduating students. Following the Graduation Ceremony, a thank you Toast for all Employees will be organized starting at 14:00 on Friday July 23rd. More information will follow.

Hello and we hope this finds you all well and healthy.

As the numbers continue to decline, we are able to adapt our Hygiene Rules accordingly starting from Monday, 7th June. The obligatory testing, social distancing and mask rules currently in place remain. However, we are able to increase the capacity in our studios, which will allow each class to train in their complete group. For the Administrative Staff, presence is allowed for all necessary activities and as much working from home as possible is still the rule.

These new Corona rules are in place until 13th June, and as soon as we see how the numbers evolve and we have the new rules from June 14th onwards, we will inform all.

Our Open-Air Summer Stage is now up! As of next Monday, we will be able to use the stage all day and evening for classes and rehearsals, and this is a very welcome and open-air possibility to further increase our activities safely. The BA Dance 3 are in the final stretch of preparations for their ¡°Symbiosis¡± evening of their BA Dance works, which will be available online as of 23rd July for all to see, free of charge. The MA exams of our Teacher Training students have begun today and almost all of the dance exams in the O, N and BA Dance classes have been successfully completed at this time.

We will be welcoming the Semperoper Ballet as a guest to perform on our stage in mid to late June, there will be Lecture Demonstrations and open rehearsals organised for our students and a Gala on 30th June to celebrate 15 years of close collaboration between the Palucca University of Dance Dresden and the Semperoper Ballet.

Our Palucca Soir¨¦e is planned in early July with four performances (8th, 10th, 15th & 17th July). As soon as we know exactly how many spectators will be allowed and the Hygiene Concept is approved, we will communicate how and where the tickets can be purchased.

We are also planning our Graduation Ceremony to take place outside on our Summer Stage on Friday, 23rd July. We do hope this will enable us to welcome our graduates' families and friends. The details will follow. For all who are unable to attend in person, we will organise a virtual attendance through our DFNconf System.

After such a long time, it really is exciting to see the stage taking shape, seeing the rehearsals developing and knowing that in the weeks to come, we will finally have Palucca students on stage performing again!

The Sommerb¨¹hne is on-Campus with classes and rehearsals in full-swing outdoors!

The ticketing is through the www.semperoper.de website and the tickets are now on sale for the ¡°Semperoper Open Air¡± Performances on June 19th & 20th, the ¡°A Shared Vision¡± Gala tickets go on sale on June 16th and the tickets for the 4 performances of our Palucca Soir¨¦e (July 8., 10., 15. and 17, 2021) go on sale on June 23rd. There are 250 tickets for each performance and the exact hygiene rules will follow closer to the exact dates.

We very much look forward to welcoming many to our first public performances in over one year! The ¡°Symbiosis¡± BA Dance Works film will be online as of July 23rd and the two films created with BAT 2, together with BAT 3 from the Ballett Akademie M¨¹nchen with Annabelle Lopez Ochoa are already online to view.

As of Monday June 14th, we have the new Corona rules and have adapted our Hygiene Concept accordingly. The twice weekly self-testing continues, the keeping of 1,5m distance at all times as does the wearing of masks in all commonly used spaces including the hallways, cafeteria and dressing rooms. It is also strictly forbidden to enter the Campus with any signs of what could be symptoms of Corona.

Each class must stay strictly in their own group for all activities and all academic and dance classes can be done without wearing masks as well as all outdoor activities as long as the incidence rate remains below 35. We must insist here upon keeping the classes separate for all activities. Dance and academic teachers are allowed, with keeping distance that the wearing of a mask for them is suggested, but is no longer obligatory in classes.

All Administrative Staff is allowed on Campus for all necessary activities and the double occupancy of an office space is now allowed if both persons are fully vaccinated + 14 days and the documentation has been presented. The distance of 1,50 m must be maintained and the room must be ventilated regularly. If the distance cannot be maintained, masks are mandatory in the double offices.

The Gym will be allowed to be used again by students under strict control from our Body Awareness Coach, with a maximal occupancy of two students from the same class and following strict hygiene rules with distance kept, windows open and the key must be granted and returned only to the Body Awareness Coach.

For all MADT Students, it will be possible to resume on-Campus observation of classes for the necessary exam preparations. All requests must be presented to the Class Leader before so he can provide the Concierge with a daily name list and then following a self-test and by wearing an FFP2 mask at all times, including during the observation of the classes in studio, on-Campus class observation can once again be allowed.

For all students being vaccinated, no dance activities are allowed following the vaccination on that day. Please inform us, so we are informed and for the days following your vaccination, as the reaction varies greatly. Please keep us closely informed about any absence to the email: empfang@palucca.eu Please also inform your Class Leader in advance, so we are aware of your planned absence, just like in all situations.

For the planned Lecture Demonstrations of the Semperoper Ballet from 10:00 ¨C 13:00 on the 17th, 24th & 25th of June, an observation is being organized for the O, N and BA Dance classes and the schedules will be adapted accordingly to enable all to watch. For MADT and MAC students, an observation is allowed at all times! Please inform your Class Leader, so a daily
list can be given to the Concierge and then with a self-test on this day, it will be possible to observe the Lecture Demonstrations which will be taking place outside on the Sommerb¨¹hne.

The Semperoper Ballet will be doing class and rehearsing their entire programme with works from Nicholas Palmquist, William Forsythe, Marius Petipa, David Dawson, Aaron S. Watkin and Jorma Elo. At all times ¨C please keep your distance and avoid any mixing of classes ¨C even when outside.

The Lecture Demonstrations are open for observation for all Palucca employees. Enjoy! Our first on-Campus Lecture Demonstrations since many years ¨C a great chance to see the dancers train and rehearse up close!

The Graduation Ceremony will take place, as planned, at 10:00 on Friday July 23rd for the N4, BA Dance III, MADT 3 and Apprentice Programme. Further details will follow shortly. As long as the incidence remains below 35, it will be open to all Palucca employees as well as friends and family members of the graduating students. Further details and capacity information will follow shortly as this will fall under the next Corona Guidelines for July.

As there have been Covid-19 infections in BAT 3, all BAT 3 students have to quarantine as of now until May 24, 2021 (yet to be confirmed). The local Health Authorities have been informed. So far, the Crisis Management Team has not identified any other K1 contacts within the Palucca University.

As we are not finally informed about other off-campus contacts we have decided to cancel all on-campus classes for BAT 1 and BAT 2 for this week.

All classes and activities of the O- and N-classes are running as scheduled.

The Crisis Management Team also agreed upon the following safety precaution: All dance faculty and accompanists who have been teaching/playing in classes of BAT 3 since May 03, 2021 and are currently scheduled to teach/rehearse/play have to give proof of a negative PoC-Antigen Rapid Test on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 as well as on Monday, May 17, 2021 when entering the campus. Also, all BAT 1 and BAT 2 students have to give proof of a negative PoC-Antigen Rapid Test on Monday, May 17, 2021 when entering the campus.

The PoC-Antigen Rapid Test should be done within 24-hours prior to campus access, the test is for free and you can get it without any problems in any test center - please see stadtplan.dresden.de. The test centers closest to the University are located about 600 meters/ 8 minutes by foot from the University at Tiergartenstra?e 94, at An der Pikardie 10 (ASKIR Pflegedienst/care & nursing service) and at Carolaschloesschen. The test will be done by qualified and trained personnel, testing will normally not take more than 15 minutes and the test result/certificate will be issued right thereafter.

Still of great importance: Please stay at home even if you just have mild symptoms. If symptoms persist, please see your doctor and eventually get a PCR-test.

In case your rapid Corona test shows a positive result, you have to do a PCR-test. Another rapid test with a negative result is not sufficient.

As you all know new amendments have been passed to the Infection Protection Act (Bundesinfektionsschutzgesetz ¨C IfSG). Effective from April 23, 2021, the IfSG and its nationwide emergency brake will initially be valid until June 30, 2021. Respective rules and regulations of the IfSG are directly applicable and have to be followed (pls. see the official announcements at sachsen.de). However, for now the new IfSG does not entail any significant changes for our institution.
In order to avoid any contradictions and inconsistencies in relation to the IfSG, the Saxon Corona Protection Ordinance (S?chsische Corona-Schutz-Verordnung) has been revised and will be effective as of May 10, 2021. The revised version of the Saxon Corona Protection Ordinance (https://www.coronavirus.sachsen.de/amtliche-bekanntmachungen.html) does not entail any changes for us as long as the 7 day¨C incidence will be below 165. Therefore, the rules and regulations in place remain valid. The COVID-19 Regulation on Working Conditions already in place provides for the obligation on employers to offer their staff the chance to work from home where feasible (office work and similar work) in order to minimize the risk of infections. Thus, the Palucca Administration will continue to work from home as much as possible.

In the meantime, it is of great importance that all of you continue to follow our health and safety regulations and do the obligatory testing. We would like to thank all of you ¨C students, guests, administration, artistic and teaching faculty, secondary school and also parents ¨C for abiding by the rules with great commitment, stamina and the necessary caution and care.

PROF. JASON BEECHEY RECEIVES KEN McCARTER AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED NBS ÈÕ²©ÌåÓý

Dresden, 30 April 2021 ¨C Canada's National Ballet School (NBS) has announced Prof. Jason Beechey, Rector of Palucca University of Dance Dresden, as one of two recipi-ents of this year's Ken McCarter Award for Distinguished NBS Alumni.

The Ken McCarter Award is presented annually to NBS alumni who have made a uni-que contribution to local, national and international dance communities, creating oppor-tunities for people of all ages and experience to connect with and learn from the art form of dance. The nomination is made by other NBS alumni. Prof. Jason Beechey is a NBS graduate of 1988.

Prof. Jason Beechey receives the award for his outstanding leadership of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden during the COVID-19 pandemic and developing some first concepts and protocols which have also enabled other dance training institutions around the world to re-open successfully after initial Corona-related closures.

¡°It has been a challenging year to say the least, but it has been great to see how the dance world has grown even closer together and given new value and meaning to being part of a close-knit and supportive community. We are all human, we are all in this together, and the more we can learn from each other and our experiences, the ri-cher and stronger we all are¡°, says Prof. Jason Beechey, who has been leading the Palucca University of Dance Dresden since 2006.

In addition to Prof. Jason Beechey, the Canadian Miriam Weinstein Adams, CM, has been honoured with the Ken McCarter Award (NBS graduate of 1963) to recognise her for her outstanding contribution as a co-founder of the Dance Collection Danse ¨C Canada's Na-tional Dance Archive and Publishing House.

MA CHOREOGRAPHY ÈÕ²©ÌåÓý TWO OF 22 SELECTED PARTICIPANTS IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION CHOREOGRAPHY 35

Dresden, 26 April 2021 ¨C Out of more than 400 applicants, Maria Chiara de'Nobili and Alexander Miller, two MA  choreography alumni of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, made it among the 22 participants of choreography 35 with their work MOMENTO. The international competition is Europe's most important platform for young choreographers and will take place on 2/3 July this year, for the 35th time in Hanover.

With this competition, the Ballett Gesellschaft Hannover gives young choreographers the opportunity to present their work to a jury of experts, to enjoy the advantages of professional stage technology, and to find a forum for exchange with other choreographers and the audience. The competition is open to any stylistic direction. Assessed are the creativity and the implementation of the choreographic idea. The artistic director of the competition is Gregor Z?llig, artistic director Tanztheater and chief choreographer Staatstheater Braunschweig.

Both Maria de'Nobili and Alexander Miller were able to successfully complete their master's degree in choreography at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden in 2020. Alexander Miller has since been working as a freelance dancer, choreographer and dance teacher since his graduation, Maria de'Nobili, inter alia, as a dancer at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden and HELLERAU - European Centre of the Arts.

Currently, around 190 students are studying at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, six of them in the two-year master's degree programme in choreography. The course of study is enrolls every two years, next time for the winter semester 2022/23.

We are still waiting for the implementation of the new rules from Berlin in Saxony. Some rules are directly applicable, others have to be implemented into Saxonian legislation. So as soon as we have them, we will see if our activities need to be adapted or how the new rules could affect us.

Hello ¨C we hope this finds all healthy and well and enjoying their Easter Break.

The ¡°Stay in Shape¡± activities are running well and is a great opportunity for the BA Students to have both classes and workshops with fellow students from the MADT, MAC, Master Class, Alumni and Guests from the Semperoper Ballet too.

The new Corona rules have arrived and from Monday April 12th the rules are stricter than before Easter. There is now an obligatory twice weekly self-testing and on Campus ¨C in all buildings, floors, hallways, staircases - wearing a medical mask or a FFP2- mask or a similar respiratory protective mask according to the SARS-CoV-2 Occupational Health and Safety Regulations is obligatory as well. Exemptions thereof apply to: resident students inside their own rooms, staff at their single workplace/ inside their single office as well as to musicians playing their instruments if protective movable walls are in use. Also, when people are outdoors on Campus, with a minimum of 1,5 meters distance between them. Apart from that, the respective teacher will decide according to the specific classroom / studio situation based on the specific regulations for the classrooms/studios. It is obligatory to carry a medical mask with you at all times also if the formerly mentioned exemptions apply. Furthermore, wearing a medical mask is generally recommended. FFP2 masks should not be worn while dancing, just the medical ones.

Testing for all Students will be conducted on Monday and Thursday and it will be clearly indicated on the Schedule for all classes, when this will take place. Resident students will conduct their first weekly test when they return to the Dormitory on Sunday, or if they stayed over the weekend, on Monday morning, in the Dormitory. Self-tests will be provided for all testing, but students or Employees can also bring a certified professional test certificate that is not older than 72 hours as an equivalent. Students and Employees can also bring a self-test with them if they prefer and complete the testing under supervision on Campus. For all Employees, there will no longer be a Corona Test Center with fixed and limited hours, but tests can be picked up at the Concierge and the manner for testing, reporting and controlling, will be communicated directly to all in a separate E-mail. We would here like to express our sincere thanks to the Employees who volunteered to run our Test Center in the weeks prior to Easter!

As previously, people exempt from wearing a mask for documented medical reasons continues and for any new cases, please contact the Crisis Management Team to ensure all is clearly documented. We hope these increased safety measures will enable us to continue our on-Campus activities in the coming weeks and we thank all in advance for your cooperation.

We hope this finds you all well and enjoying the first week of your Easter Holidays. The ?Stay-in-Shape" activities went very well this week and it was nice to see the MA Choreography / Master Class students working with the BA Dance students on various creative research ideas and projects.

For the coming week, from April 6th ¨C 9th, under the new Corona Regulations, there is obligatory testing for all persons involved in the ¡°Stay in Shape¡± to be done at the beginning of the week, on Monday April 6th. This includes all students, teachers and musicians. The self-testing will be done in the studios 15 minutes before the first class of the day for each group. If someone doesn¡¯t wish to do a self-test, they are not allowed to participate.

All other on-campus personnel not directly involved in the ¡°Stay in Shape¡±, the testing for the week of April 6th ¨C 9th remains voluntary. The Corona Test Center will only be open on Monday April 6th between 12:00 ¨C 14:00 next week, as during this week, the Secondary School is on holidays, so the testing is not obligatory. The rules for the period from April 12th onwards, when our regular activities resume, will follow next week.

As a reminder, in case a self-test is positive, the concerned person must immediately leave the campus and do a PCR-test at a doctor¡¯s office or in a test center. The self-testing done on-campus is exclusively for people without symptoms that could be associated with COVID-19. The rules for the wearing of masks, in the week of April 6th ¨C 9th, remain unchanged.

CHOREOGRAPHY STUDENT YUEXUAN GUI ONE OF JUST FIVE INTERNATIONAL YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHES TO RECEIVE INVITATION TO THIS YEAR'S BIENNALE DANZA IN VENICE

As part of the prestigious College of the Biennial Danza, Yuexuan Gui, who is studying in the first year of the two-year MA Choreography programme, will be given the opportunity to develop her own choreographic work, which will be presented during the festival. The process will be personally accompanied by world-renowned choreographer and artistic director of the festival Wayne McGregor as a mentor. She will also have the opportunity to participate in the artistic vision of Wayne McGregor and choreographer and dancer Crystal Pite over a period of almost three months.

After Maria Chiara de'Nobili in 2018 and 2019, Yuexuan Gui is the second MA Choreography student at Palucca University of Dance Dresden to receive an invitation to the Biennale Danza in Venice.

Just a short newsletter at the end of this week with some information on next week¡¯s testing:
For the Secondary School, the obligatory testing will continue for next week (March 22-26, 2021) the way it has been done and organized this week. For the Palucca Dormitory nothing will change either: Resident students can only return to the Dormitory with a negative self-test. The self-test can be done in the Dormitory. All other Secondary School students will do a self-test on Monday, March 22nd, 2021.

The testing for all BA & MA students and further University staff with on-campus activities remains on a weekly and voluntary basis.

The Test Center will now be open during the following hours:
? March 22nd -26th, 2021: daily noon/12:00 ¨C 2:00 p.m.
? March 29th & April 6th, 2021: noon/12:00 ¨C 2:00 p.m.

Please take note of the following:
The offer of an on-campus self-test is only for asymptomatic persons. If anyone has any symptoms that could be related to Corona, they are not allowed on the campus.

Our two-week Easter holidays start on Friday, March 26th at 1:30 p.m., and as a reminder, the Dormitory remains open during the two weeks and the stay -in-shape classes for the BA students are being organized. The schedule will be communicated early next week.

The current Corona rules in place for Saxony are valid until March 31st, 2021. During the first week of April, we will be informing all of how our activities will be, starting from Monday, April 12th, 2021.

Hello and we hope this finds you and yours all healthy. It has been great to welcome back the O1 ¨C N3 and MAC students back on-campus this week for the first time since over three months!

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, March 17, 2021, there will be an obligatory weekly Corona test for all O1 ¨C N4 students and Secondary School teachers. Testing (once a week) will be done in class. Alternatively, students and teachers of the Secondary School can give signed proof of a negative test result from professional testers/test centers, or present a negative self-test to the responsible teacher/person. Everybody not complying with the obligatory testing will be denied access to the Palucca Campus. A consent form signed by the parents or legal guardians is necessary and must be provided and turned in.

For all BA & MA students and all further employees being involved in on-campus activities, testing is not yet obligatory as we have not yet received the quantity of necessary tests. However, starting Wednesday, March 17, 2021 we will offer a voluntary test once a week. The testing will be offered on-campus in our test center in the Villa 78, Monday ¨C Friday from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Access to test centre via veranda/terrace of Villa 78.

Hello ¨C we hope this finds you and yours all healthy and coping in these times.

So, good news ¨C we are able to welcome back on-campus all students registered in on-campus programmes, in a very reduced manner, starting on Monday, March 15th. There are new rules in place for our activities, including an obligatory Corona test, and this is how we will be able to proceed for the two-week period of March 15th¨C26th, leading up to our Easter Break.

On-Campus Activities
As all classes from O1 ¨C N3 have less than 16 students per class, so they are allowed to return and follow their full, normal programme, including dance classes. Each class will have an assigned classroom, assigned seating and staggered lunch-breaks will be organized.

? N4 continues with their current level of activities.
? BA Dance I & II, will be allowed on campus for a daily ballet and contemporary class in two groups. The remainder of their activities will remain online.
? BA Dance III will continue with their current level of activities.
? MADT, all activities remain online.
? MAC, reduced on-campus activities will be allowed to resume.

Quick tests/ Self-testing
At this moment and despite huge efforts from all sides, we cannot forward a date when the University and the Secondary School will have enough test kits to offer quick tests and to do the obligatory testing. We are organizing everything accordingly, so that we are able to start without delays. We hereby ask for your understanding. As of now, there will be an offer for the classes N1, N2 and N3 to do a voluntary test (PoC) on Monday, March 13th, 2021.

Medical & FFP2 Masks On-Campus
The current policy of wearing medical masks/ FFP2 masks at all times remains. The only exceptions are when a resident student is in their dormitory room, when an employee is using their office alone, or when a musician is seated at the piano behind the plexiglass walls.

Medical Masks in Dance Classes and the Secondary School
With the permission of the teacher and when a distance of 1.5 meters minimum is maintained, the teacher is allowed to give the permission to participate in the dance and academic classes without wearing a mask. At the end of the class, the teacher must ensure that all students put their mask back on before leaving the classroom/studio. This applies to all on-campus dance and academic classes.

Dormitory
Students are only allowed access to the Dormitory upon presentation of a negative Corona test that is less than 48 hours old at the moment of their entry into the Dormitory. Alternatively, they can bring a self-test with them and do the self-test locally under the supervision of a Dormitory Supervisor. The Dormitory capacity and rules remain as current: only students whose parents or guardians live in Germany and are either in the O- and N-classes, or have been in the Dormitory since the beginning of the pandemic.

Activities During the Easter Holiday
The Easter Holidays begin on Saturday, March 27th and go until Sunday, April 11th. All classes for the O-, N- & BA Dance classes end on Friday, March 26th and resume on Monday, April 12th.

During the two weeks of Holidays, the Dormitory will remain open. On-campus activities will be allowed for the MAC Programme and exam preparations for the BA Dance III class who will begin preparing their BA Dance works.

A ¡°stay in shape¡± daily dance training will be on offer for BA Dance students and a list will shortly be put up on the notice board, so that the students can register to participate. This will be on March 29th, 30th & 31st and April 6th ¨C 9th.

The campus will be closed on Thursday, April 1st and will re-open for these activities on Tuesday, April 6th. Over these four days, noone will be allowed access to the Campus.

Details of the Palucca Corona Test Center will be communicated directly to all and with the specific details for the various grouping of employees.

As complicated as this all sounds, we are very pleased to offer such a high level of safety to all and also to welcome back all students with on-campus activities.

The Lockdown will be extended until March 28th, but there are some relaxations and changes for Saxony as of Monday, March 15th.

What we know today is that as of Monday, March 15th reduced on-campus activities will resume for O1¨CN3. As to the exact schedule and content, this will be clarified and communicated early next week.

Resident students from O1¨CN3 who live in Germany will be allowed to return to the Dormitory as of Sunday, March 14th. However, due to the reduced capacity, no further BA Dance students will be allowed to return to the Dormitory at this time nor students who come from outside of Germany. Exact details will follow next week and will be communicated directly to the families concerned. We very much look forward to welcoming back our O1¨CN3 students in just over one week!

Jumping topics, unfortunately, due to technical issues, our virtual Semester Opening this week didn¡¯t work. So ¨C we hope the rescheduled one for Monday, March 8th, 17:30¨C18:30, on Zoom, will work! The Zoom link will be communicated internally to all employees and will be forwarded by the class leaders to all students.

You should be able to enter the virtual Semester Opening on Zoon via copying & pasting the link into your browser. INTERNATIONALLY AWARDED MA CHOREOGRAPHY STUDENT COMBINES VISUAL CREATIVITY OF PRODUCT DESIGN WITH DANCE

For Brian Scalini, who is studying in the first year of the two-year MA Choreography programme at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, 2020 was a very successful year. Not only was he able to present his choreographies at the Solo Tanz Theater Festival in Stuttgart, the Gdanski Festival Tanca in Danzig, the Istanbul Fringe Festival, the 25MASDANZA Choreography Contest in Gran Canaria and the Machol Shalem Dance House in Jerusalem, but he also received the "Special Mention" of the jury at the SOLOCOREOGRAFICO Solo Dance Festival Frankfurt! And it looks like 2021 will be an equally successful year for Brian Scalini who, thus far, has received eight invitations to present his choreographies, namely at the Tanzwoche Dresden, The Black Box International Dance Festival (Bulgaria), the Blois Dance Festival (France), the Solo Contemporary Dance Festival Ankara (Turkey), the Oklahoma Dance Festival (USA), the Body-Radical International Performing Arts Biennal Budapest (Hungary), the Bergen Fringe Festival (Norway) and the Quinzena De Danca De Almeda (Portugal).

"Cocoon" ¨C which is part of the dance trilogy "Working Wounded¡° and whose creation was inspired by childhood traumata of the dancers and their influence on their adult lives ¨C has been Brian Scalinis most successful choregraphy to date. However, looking at Brian Scalinis success, one would not assume that his career path as a ballet dancer and choregrapher has been rather unusal. After ten years of ballroom dance, he did not start taking ballet classes until the age of 20. He really enjoyed it and wanted to learn and improve quickly. He took all the ballet classes available at his local ballet academy, even if this meant dancing with the smallest dancers. At the same time, he started his degree in product design at the Unversity of Bologna, the successful completion of which in 2016 brought him to a crossroads in his life, as he had to decide which path to take: that of a dancer or as a product designer.

Brian Scalini decided on the first path, and after a few auditions he landed a job as a dancer at the Landesb¨¹hne Sachsen in 2017 which brought him to choreography through an initiative for young choreographers. Since 2018, he has been creating his own choreographies. He has realised that he does not have to decide between dance and product design. Working as a choreographer enables him to combine both dance and his visual creativity as a product designer whereby the choreography is the product: the use of bodies, shapes, costumes and scenoraphy to create, "package" and market the choregraphy, i.e. the product.

To give his work as a choreographer a solid basis and to find his own identity and signature, Brian Scalini started the MA Choreography at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden in 2020. A career as a dancer is not compulsory for this master programme. Applicants are not excluded from studying the MA Choregraphy on the basis of a "non-formative" body. Instead, a special artistic talent, including the job-specific facilities and skills are the most important criteria for admission to this programme. Students can enrol in the MA Choreography programme every two years; the next intake is in the winter semester of 2022/23.

Currenty, ca. 190 students are studying at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, six of them are enrolled in the MA Choreography.

Hello and we hope this finds all healthy and well. As mentioned in our previous newsletter, we have more news about our activities for next week.

Under the new Saxon Corona Guidelines, we must keep our activities on the same level as currently and all classes for O1 ¨C N3 remain online for the coming two weeks. We are also not allowed to accept any further students back into the Dormitory at this time.

Additionally, starting on Monday, February 22nd and running until Friday, March 5th, we are able to offer on a voluntary basis ¡°individual coaching¡± for the BAT 1 and BAT 2 students on-campus as well as studio time for self-study for the MAC students.

The individual coaching sessions will comprise a 60-minute KLT barre and center practice, followed by a 60-minute combination of ZT/MT, Improvisation, Yoga or Pilates. The coaching sessions will be organised by offering each individual a studio space from 25 ¨C 50 square meters, and the sessions will be conducted under the supervision of a teacher.

To keep the numbers of people on-campus to an absolute minimum, a strict adherence to only entering the campus a maximum of 30 minutes before the coaching and leaving promptly thereafter is mandatory. All activities will be staggered throughout the day, with the studio time for the MAC students being offered in the evening. The majority of the coaching sessions will be done using recorded music and absolutely no use of the other on-campus facilities is permitted.

For students who are not in Dresden or would prefer to remain training online, a daily online ballet and contemporary class will continue to be offered.

We are very pleased to be able to offer this chance to our BA Dance I & II students for the coming two weeks. For any questions or feedback, please contact your Class Leader directly. No changing of entrance times or studios are allowed.

We hope the information for our Easter Digital Dance Workshop has arrived well that this has inspired many of you to begin to create new works for this years¡¯ mini-online film festival!

Also, we will be having a ¡°Virtual Online Summer Semester Opening¡± which will take place through DFNconf on March 3rd from 5:30 ¨C 6:30 p.m. Details will follow in our coming newsletter.

Dear All,

We hope this finds you all healthy, well and coping in these times. We hope all enjoyed their winter break and many took advantage of the on-going exam preparations for the N4 and BAT 3 as well as intensive online workshops for the MAC and MA DT students.

The Lockdown will now be extended until the 7th of March, and although we are still waiting to receive the official implementation for Saxony, it doesn¡¯t look like we can expect any changes to our current situation. This means, all classes will continue to be delivered online, except for the exam preparations for the N4 and BAT 3, until 7th March. Shall any chances be announced this weekend, we will inform all of you as quickly as possible.

The report cards from the Secondary School have been sent yesterday and the explanations as to how we will do our semester feedback to all students and families about the dance subjects has also been communicated to all students of the BA Dance classes and to all parents and legal guardians of our O- & N-class students. We are in the process of organising our next Parent¡¯s Day, which will take place in a virtual format, with the possibility to talk with the teachers both in a group and individually. More information will follow shortly.

As the Lockdown continues, we must applaud all for seeing their continued motivation, progress and dedication. For all parents of the O- & N-classes, our Body Awareness Coach has sent out information ¨C and now it is your chance to participate actively in online fitness classes with Mr. Matthew Squire! As a way to share our joy in dance and movement, we hope this can provide a moment to experience an online workout yourselves. The participation is limited to 23 persons per class, on a first come, first serve basis. Enjoy!

DIGITAL TEACHING AT THE PALUCCA UNIVERSITY OF DANCE DRESDEN DURING THE CORONA-PANDEMIC

Digital teaching poses a particular challenge, especially for art and music colleges and universities, as it is not only theory that is taught. Of the 189 students currently studying at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden, only the 14 students in the final year of the integrated secondary school and the 18 students in the final year of the three-year BA Dance programme are being taught face-to-face in the classroom. All other students, including those studying the master programmes Dance Teacher and Choreography are taught exclusively digitally.

In order to continue to adequately teach all students who cannot take part in classroom teaching, the University uses a variety of methods and techniques of digital teaching. Thus, all theory and practice lessons take place using DFNconf, the conference service of the Deutsches Forschungsnetz. The students are connected to the teachers and lecturers in the classrooms and dance studios via monitors, laptops and conference calls. Up to 69 students can be connected from one of the dance studios at the same time. In addition, interactive whiteboards are used in theory lessons, with which all classrooms of the secondary school are equipped.

However, the "digital university of dance" reaches its limits in the admission procedures, for which the dancers of tomorrow have to come to the university in person. Until 26 March 2021, the parents of final-year primary school students can apply for their child to participate in the admission procedure for grade 5 of the orientation level at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden ¨C Secondary School.

Our online activities continue and it is great having the N4 and BAT 3 back in the studios for their exam preparations. The exam preparations will continue in dance, for these two classes, over the one-week Winter Holidays, and all other classes will have a break from the online activities.

With the current rules in place until Sunday, February 14th our activities will resume as of Monday, February 8th exactly like this week, with just the N4 and BAT 3 on-campus. We will find out during early February how the situation will look from Monday, February 15th onwards, and we hope to welcome back more classes to on-campus activities from then - including above all our students of the MA Dance Teacher Programme and MA Choreography Programme.

Under these new rules, the heightened mask obligations remain, and even though an FFP2 mask is not obligatory, we will be making one FFP2 mask per week available for the teachers and musicians as an extra measure to wear during their studio time. With all other employees, with specific requirements in terms of their on-campus activities (caretaker, Dormitory supervisors), we will communicate directly.

The families of those students that are not able to return to the Dormitory yet, will receive a refund of the Dormitory fees. The exact means in which this will be done will be communicated by our Financial Departmen directly.

As this pandemic continues, we would like to thank you all for your continued support and understanding. Knowing how complicated it is to juggle working from home, home schooling and the challenges for our students of not being able to be in the studios, perform or socialize freely with their classmates ¨C it is really great to see how everyone is doing their best to find solutions and not lose faith. We will get past this pandemic and find ourselves once again able to enjoy a more normal situation. A big thank you to all concerned!

In the Dormitory of the Palucca University of Dance Dresden there is a confirmed case of COVID-19. The concerned student is in an isolation room on a separate floor. The student has no symptoms and is doing well. There is one further student who has been deemed to be a K1 Contact person and this student has also been placed in an isolation room. After a thorough investigation, there are no other students or Staff who are K1 Contact persons. A Covid Test is planned for all current 7 Resident students on Monday January 18th 2021. Students will only return to presence classes following a negative PCR Test.

The Dormitory remains in isolation and no one, except the working Dormitory Matrons, are allowed inside. No further resident students will be allowed to return to the Dormitory at this time and the Crisis Management Team has placed the following measures into effect:

• All classes, both Dance and Academic for the N4 will remain online until and including Wednesday January 20th 2021.
• All N4 students have the chance to have a PoC-Test on Monday January 18th. The participation is voluntary but is urgently recommended. The N4 will be informed by the Class Leader, Frau Schneider about how this will be organized.
• The on-Campus Activities of the BAT 3 (none of whom live in the Dormitory) remain unchanged and will start on Monday, January 18th as planned.

The Crisis Management Team is in permanent contact with the Dormitory and the Health Au-thorities of the city of Dresden and we will do our best to keep all as informed and up to date about the situation as quickly and regularly as possible.

Our online activities continue and we are looking forward to welcoming back our N4 and BAT 3 on Campus starting on Monday, January 18th 2021, with their exam preparations.

To ensure the health and safety of all, we have heightened Hygiene Rules in place, which you will find attached (Rules of Conduct ¨C Protection and Safety Rules as January 18, 2021).

The wearing of a mask on Campus is now obligatory in all classes, both Academics and Dance, as well as everywhere on the Campus, by all persons at all times. The only exceptions are when a resident student is inside their own room, when a staff member of the Administration is in their individual office or when a musician is seated at the piano behind the newly installed protective movable walls.

Extra precautions have also been taken for all returning resident students and students returning from outside Germany in high-risk areas and these have been communicated directly to all.
The numbers are still very high and it is only through such increased safety measures and the cooperation of all that we can continue to do the utmost to protect and keep all healthy and safe.

Hello ¨C and Happy New Year! We hope this finds everyone and their families in good health and despite all the restrictions, that all were able to still enjoy the Holiday Season. May 2021 bring us all a return to a more stable and normal situation.

The Lockdown has been extended until the 31st of January. However, we are still waiting for the complete information on the exact terms and conditions. We will hopefully have the complete information by Friday this week.

What we do know at this point, is that the Secondary School is online for all academic classes and for the O1 ¨C N3, this will continue until the end of January. The N4 will be allowed to return to classes on Campus, as of Monday the 18th of January for their Academics.

For all N4 resident students (including guests), who are returning from a high-risk country, they will be allowed to enter the Dormitory on Sunday January 10th, but only with proof of a negative Corona test that is not more than 48 hours old. They must also complete the online registration form from the Health Authorities prior to entering Germany (www.einreiseanmeldung.de). These students will be able to do their quarantine in the Dormitory. The quarantine is for 10 days, but a Corona test can be done after 5 days and when negative, the quarantine is lifted. This will enable these students to start classes on Monday January 18th.

For all returning N4 resident students (including guests) from countries not declared as high-risk countries and from inside Germany, they will be allowed to enter the Dormitory on Friday, January 15th, but only upon presentation of a negative Corona test, that is not more than 48 hours old. These students will be kept in an isolated room for 48 hours over the weekend to ensure that there are no symptoms that could be associated with Corona and then, they will be able to start the on-Campus classes on Monday January 18th.

We request all returning N4 resident students, that they don¡¯t travel home on the weekend of January 23rd & 24th to avoid any unnecessary travel inside these two weeks of on-Campus classes before the Winter Holiday.

For all other classes (O1 ¨C N3, BAT, MADT, MAC), we are waiting for information, hopefully by Friday of this week, to know if any on-Campus activities will be allowed during the Lockdown extension and we will inform all with a new newsletter as soon as we know more.

We also know at this point, that the Winter Holidays have been moved forward and shortened. We will now finish after classes on Friday January 29th and resume classes on Monday February 8th. The plan and hope are that more classes will be allowed to return on-Campus then, but this decision will be made only in the last week of January. The Easter Holidays have been extended to make up for the lost holiday week in February and our new Easter Holidays will start after classes end on Friday March 26th and resume on Monday April 12th.

For all Students, please check your emails regularly (at least once a day) and stay in close contact with your Class Leader to be sure you receive all the information that is being sent. The Class Leaders are available to answer any questions and to ensure the online activities are running smoothly.

We all know how frustrating this extended Lockdown is, but with the situation of the pandemic in Saxony on a very critical level, these measures are necessary to get the pandemic under control and we thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Jumping to a different topic ¨C our new website is online! The internal username and password have been sent by the Class Leaders to all and we hope you are finding the updated website more user friendly. It is also barrier free, should it should work well from smartphones and other devices.

We hope this finds you and yours all healthy and adapting to the new Lockdown, which started yesterday in Saxony and will be in place for all of Germany as of Wednesday. Unfortunately, under the new rules, all ¡°on Campus¡± activities are suspended and all of our activities will be exclusively online until the 10th of January 2021. The Secondary School is via ¡°LernSax¡±, the MA Programmes through ¡°OPAL¡± and we are currently organizing online dance classes to start as of Monday January 4th for all O, N & BA Classes. The current Lockdown is in place until January 10th and we will hear in the first week of January if this will be extended or if ¡°on Campus¡± activities will be allowed to resume as of Monday January 11th .

The re-opening of our Dormitory in 2021 will be done in phases. For students returning from outside Germany, we will allow them to return to the Dormitory from 12:00 on Sunday January 3 rd 2021. Only these students will be allowed to return then. For students coming from Highrisk Countries who need to do Quarantine, we will be placing them in isolated rooms until their Quarantine is completed. The current regulations allow a corona test after 5 days of Quarantine and if negative, then the student would be allowed to join the ¡°on Campus¡± activities which will hopefully resume on January 11th .

For all returning resident students from inside Germany, the information as to when they can return will be communicated on Wednesday January 6th 2021. The Dormitory will be in touch with all resident students and their families directly.

For all resident students, we must insist, that only students who appear to be completely healthy and symptom free, are allowed to return. We thank you in advance for your patience, cooperation and understanding.

The situation with Corona in Saxony and Germany is currently very critical and hopefully such measures will prove effective to bring the pandemic under control and to ensure the health and safety of all. We will do our best to keep all informed of how the situation evolves. We hope this finds you and yours all healthy and coping in these challenging times.The situation continues to evolve very rapidly and a much stronger Lockdown is set to begin on Monday for Saxony. The exact conditions of the Lockdown will only be passed in the Parliament of Saxony on Friday and we will receive the official information in writing over the weekend. However, we have already made the following decisions today in our Crisis Management Team to enable all to plan for the coming weeks.

?As of Monday December 14thall classes and activities on Campus will be suspended. This will remain in effect until Monday January 4thfor the BA and MA Programmes and until Monday January 11thfor the O & N Classes.

?The activities of the Secondary School O1 ¨CN4 will continue online until Friday December 18thand resume online, on Monday January 4th.

?We are in direct contact with all our resident Students and their families to ensure the necessary supervision can be provided until all students are able to travel homethis weekend or early next week. The Dormitory is planned to re-open on Sunday January 3rd2021 for the resident BA Students and Sunday the 9thof January for the resident O & N Classes.

?The Administrative Staff will be working from Home Office as of Monday December 14thexcept for Employees whos¡¯roles can only be doneon Campus.Details will be announced in due course.

?At the present time, with the draft version of the legislation we have received, the BA and MA Programmescould resume on Campus, as of Monday January 4thand the O & N as of Monday January 11th, but all is subject to approval in the Parliament this Fridayand then also according to how the situation with the pandemic evolves.

We hope that with the decisions that we have made today, this will enable all to plan accordingly for the coming 4-weeks.
