ERASMUS+ is the EU¡¯s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. The ERASMUS+ Programme comprises all of the previous EU programmes for lifelong learning, youth and sport as well as the European cooperation programmes between universities.  

Under the umbrella of the EU¡¯s ERASMUS+ educational programme, the following mobility measures are supported within higher education:

• Studies abroad for students
• Internships abroad for students
• Mobility for teachers and instructors
• Mobility for staff members

Subsidies are awarded by the national agencies in the 34 programme countries (all EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, the Republic of North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey). In Germany, this is handled by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst - DAAD).

The Palucca University of Dance Dresden was awarded the ERASMUS Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) by the European Commission for the period 2021 to 2027. This is an important prerequisite for European universities in order to be able to participate in the ERASMUS+ programme.

Subject to the allocation of funds by the European Commission, regularly enrolled students at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden can apply for ERASMUS+ funding for study periods abroad and internships within Europe.

If you are interested in spending part of your studies abroad, you should start planning and preparing as early as possible - at least a year in advance. Study, internship, summer course or something completely different - there are many possibilities. Also find out about the exchange programmes and projects at Palucca University of Dance Dresden, such as the Erasmus+ programme.

Information from the National Agency for Erasmus+ University Cooperation and the German Academic Exhange Service (DAAD)

Important points here are:

• What financial support options are available (scholarships, BAf?G, student loans, foundations)?
• Are my language skills sufficient and how can I improve them if they are not? Do I have to take a language test to prove my language skills for acceptance to study or an internship?
• What are the entry and residence regulations? Do I need a visa? If so, how do I apply?
• What documents are needed for the application? (e.g. translation of certificates, certifications or expert opinions)
• What deadlines must I meet? (e.g. application deadlines, language test deadlines, deadlines for scholarships, foreign BAf?G, etc.)
• What accommodation options are available?
• Do I need additional health insurance abroad?
• What travel medicine precautions (vaccinations, etc.) should I take and what medication do I need to take with me (doctor's appointment)?

Preparing to study abroad: Obtain information about the host institution:

• How is the study programme structured? (academic year, semester / trimester, courses, forms of examination, etc.)
• Are there any admission restrictions for the desired degree programme or do I have to take an aptitude test or entrance examination before starting my studies?
• What are the application and enrolment deadlines?
• Do I have to take a language test before starting my studies? (If necessary: dates, examination venue, requirements, period of validity)
• How is the recognition of study and examination achievements obtained abroad carried out?
• Are tuition fees payable at the host university? If so, how much?

• Internships are possible for both students and alumni provided that the internship takes place within a year after completion of studies at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden and an application has been submitted beforehand.
• The duration of an ERASMUS+ internship is a minimum of two months (60 days) and a maximum of 12 months.
• All EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, the Republic of North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey are possible countries of destination. 
• ERASMUS+ internship-holders receive a mobility allowance as partial compensation for the additional expenses during their stay abroad.
• The internships are to be organised by the students themselves. They apply to the Palucca University of Dance Dresden only for financial aid within the context of the ERASMUS+ programme.

• Internship grants are not possible for internships at European institutions or organisations, national diplomatic missions or organisations which manage EU programmes

The application for an ERASMUS internship is a two-step procedure:

1. Application for an internship at the desired institution.
2. Application to the Palucca University of Dance Dresden for ERASMUS+ funding within the respective university-internal application deadline.

Information concerning possible internship institutions and contacts can be obtained from the heads of the respective study programmes.

Applications for Erasmus internship can be handed in until January 21^st2024. Applications submitted later can only be considered if funding is still available.

Learning Agreement for internship

The Learning Agreement is the basis for the ERASMUS+ internship. It must be concluded by the student and the host institution before the start of the internship. The Learning Agreement defines the contents of the internship and the responsibilities. It ist also important to clarify questions regarding insurance during the internship with the host institution and, if necessary, to take out appropriate insurance. 

Grant Agreement

The Grant Agreement is the contract that regulates the amount of Erasmus funding, the payment modalities as well as the rights and obligations of participants in the Erasmus programme.

ERASMUS Online Language Support (OLS)

All participants in the Erasmus programme are required to take an online language test in the working language at the host university before starting their stay. In addition, the EU Academy platform offers the possibility to participate in as many language courses online as you wish and thus improve your language skills before and during your Erasmus stay. Furthermore, at the end of their stay abroad, a second language test must be taken to evaluate improvements in their language competence.

Payment of the Erasmus Grant

The payment of the 1st instalment of the Erasmus grant usually takes place as soon as the Grant Agreement and the Learning Agreement have been signed and the online language test has been taken.

The first payment amounts to 70% of the total amount of the grant. The 2nd instalment of the grant is paid after the end of the stay, when all the necessary documents and reports have been submitted in full.

Final Documentation and Report

The final report of the ERASMUS+ internship is completed online. The EUSurvey tool automatically sends participants an e-mail with their log-in details and a link to the report at the end of their stay. The report contains questions on the professional and linguistic development during the traineeship, but also on the handling of administrative matters in the Erasmus programme. Furthermore, proof of the internship must be submitted in the form of a Traineeship Certificate. In addition, a second language test is required after the end of the stay.

The financial support for Erasmus stays is based on the different costs of living in the target countries ("program countries") and is divided into three different country groups. Please note that you will only be informed of the exact amount of funding for your stay once you have been approved for Erasmus+ funding. This depends on the availability of funds and the number of students who have been accepted for an Erasmus stay.

Funding Rates Erasmus+ Internship 

Inclusion and diversity - these are the priorities of the Erasmus+ programme generation 2021-2027. The programme aims to achieve the goal of more equal opportunities and inclusion in all areas of education through various measures and opportunities. An essential component in the higher education sector is the additional financial support for participants with fewer opportunities through top-up amounts and real cost support. From the winter semester 2022/2023, students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, students with children, students from a non-academic home and students in employment can receive a top-up amount. Participants with a disability or chronic illness as well as participants with children can claim real costs.

The additional financial support is applied for and confirmed by means of a declaration on honour, which you must submit to the International Office before the start of your Erasmus stay.

The focus of "Erasmus+ Green" is to raise awareness among Erasmus+ participants on the issues of sustainability, climate change and environmental protection, and in particular on the ecological footprint that participants create through mobility. Through awareness raising and financial incentives, the number of mobilities with more environmentally friendly means of transport should be increased and the ecological footprint of the Erasmus+ programme reduced. 

Green travel during an Erasmus+ stay

You travel green if you use more than 50% of your travel to and from the host institution by low-emission means of transport such as bus or train, by bike, on foot or by carpooling. Students receive a one-off grant of 50 € for this. In addition, you have the option of receiving funding for up to 4 additional days of travel.

The top up for Green travel is applied for and confirmed by means of a declaration on honour, which you must submit to the International Office before the start of your Erasmus stay.

Erasmus+ aims to promote equal opportunities and inclusion, which is why access to the programme is facilitated for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds and with special needs.

Special support for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses

Students and graduates with a GdB of at least 20 or a certified chronic illness who have been accepted for an Erasmus+ funded study or traineeship abroad can receive special funding. Depending on the financial need, either a flat-rate grant of 250 € per month can be awarded or - upon submission of an appropriate application - support for real additional costs incurred can be granted. In any case, the need for the special grant must be stated when applying for an Erasmus+ study or traineeship period.

Special support for students with children

Students who are funded for a stay abroad through Erasmus+ and travel abroad with their child/children can apply for a monthly flat-rate grant of 250 €, which will be paid in addition to the regular Erasmus+ funding rate. In any case, the need for the special grant must be indicated when applying for an Erasmus+ study or traineeship period. 

BAf?G-eligible students can also receive BAf?G for the stay abroad funded by ERASMUS+. You can find more information here.  

Participants in the Erasmus programme must have adequate insurance cover. No insurance cover is associated with the Erasmus mobility grant. Neither the European Commission, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) nor the home or host institutions are liable for any damage resulting from illness, death, accident, injury to persons, loss of or damage to property in connection with Erasmus stays (study, traineeship).

Please enquire in particular about the following insurances and take them out if necessary:

• Travel insurance (including repatriation from abroad)
• Liability insurance (professional and personal liability, if applicable)
• Insurance for accidents and serious illnesses (including full or partial incapacity for work)
• Life insurance (including repatriation from abroad).

All participants in the Erasmus programme (including graduates) have the opportunity to be included in the DAAD's group insurance, which offers comprehensive insurance cover. Further information is available here.

• Two to twelve months¡¯ study visit abroad at a partner university in Europe
• Exemption from tuition fees at the partner university
• Academic recognition of the course work (ECTS) abroad by the Palucca University of Dance Dresden
• Mobility allowance as partial compensation for additional expenses during the stay abroad
• Support for the subject-related and language-related preparations for staying abroad 

• Regular enrolment at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden
• Completion of the first academic year
• The study programme abroad must be at a partner university with which the Palucca University of Dance Dresden has an ERASMUS+ Inter-Institutional Agreement
• The host university must have a valid ERASMUS+ University Charter (ECHE)

The application for an ERASMUS+ study abroad is a two-step procedure:

1.    Application to participate in an ERASMUS+ programme over the Palucca University of Dance Dresden within the respective university-internal application deadline.

2.    The nomination by the Palucca University is followed by an application for study at the desired partner university as an exchange student.

Please inform yourselves at the partner universities¡¯ websites as to what study programmes and courses are being offered as well as about the admission and language requirements, and the application deadlines.

Application to the Host University

After having been nominated for an ERASMUS+ study abroad, it is necessary to submit an application to the desired host university. Please pay special attention to the application deadlines and the required application documents as these differ from university to university. It is possible that late or incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.

Learning Agreement for Studies

The host university will assess the aptitude of the candidate for their respective programme of studies. A nomination by the Palucca University of Dance Dresden does not guarantee admission to a partner university. The application also includes the Learning Agreement for ERASMUS+ studies abroad.

Grant Agreement

After being admitted to the partner university and signing the Learning Agreement, you will then receive a grant agreement from the Palucca University of Dance Dresden. This document lists your rights and obligations as a participant in the ERASMUS+ programme as well as the exact scholarship amount and payment modalities.

ERASMUS Online Language Support (OLS)

Prior to beginning a stay abroad every participant in the ERASMUS+ programme is obligated to take an online language test in the working language of their respective host university. Depending on the test results, students can participate in an online language course in order to improve their language competence. Final Documentation and Report

The final report of the ERASMUS+ study abroad is to be completed online. At the end of your stay abroad, you will automatically receive an email from the EU Survey tool containing login information and the link to the report. The report contains questions about the study-related and language-related development during the study abroad as well as questions about the handling of the administrative issues with regard to the Erasmus+ programme. Furthermore, a Transcript of Records from the host university and proof of duration of stay are to be submitted. In addition to this, a second language test must be taken at the end of your study abroad.

The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) allows for the recognition of courses completed abroad. Academic performance and examinations are assessed using a uniform pan-European credit system. Prior to your study abroad and together with the respective competent Head of Studies at the University and the contact at the host university, you will have worked out a study plan (Learning Agreement) in which the required courses and the number of required credits are defined.
Still, the recognition of your attended courses and examinations abroad through the ECTS does not happen automatically. Therefore, in order to get your academic achievements abroad recognized at a later time, it is important to observe the following:

After your return, please contact the Department for Study/Examinations and Academic Affairs to apply for recognition of your academic achievements abroad. The appropriate application together with the Transcript of Records from the host university must be submitted to the Board of Examiners. Please submit detailed course descriptions, which serve to verify the contents of the courses attended, to the Board of Examiners.

An application for leave of absence for the period of study abroad must be submitted to the Office of Student Affaires. The application must be submitted by the end of the respective previous academic year at the latest.

At the same time, the re-registration for the following semester is required, as students remain enrolled during their studies abroad.
